So, I've had my w204 C63 for around a year now and have lurked on this forum since then. It has been a useful tool for some issues that I've had!

I've signed up to PM a member that I've seen in a thread that I would like to ask a question whoever it appears that I can't PM anyone... I assume this feature is disables until I make a certain number of posts?

However after signing up and seeing how active this forum is I may stick around and contribute where I can... Its nice to see an active forum these days! It's been years since I've been an active forum member anywhere as the majority have died to the likes of reddit...

The member I would like to PM is @cheddar so I was wondering if it would be possible to get his attention here, I just have a question or two about a post he made, and I have seen that he is still an active member, and is also local to me coincidentally!

Hi and welcome 👍

well hello @FuzzLy ,

Bit of a throwback, but in 2017 you posted about doing lifters in your CLK. You noted that when they first started to go it began to clatter when hot. You're one of the only other people I have come across with the same issues, and I was wondering if you could elaborate slightly?

I have a 2009 C63 and after hard driving have a clattering in the top end which then fades away after a few minutes. But none of the usual ticking on cold start or the likes. It's been like this for probably a month now. I've had it to a "specialist" garage and it seems like they want nothing to do with it.

I simply ignored it at first, used to drive the car hard and thought the oil i was using was not up to the job. performed a service, changed oil brand from VW's quantum to shell helix ultra, next day it did it again, only this time it kept doing it and the noise was more persistent and localised to one area. on inspection a few weeks later it was horrendous, if i'd of caught it earlier it might not of needed 2 camshafts too.
6 months after I did the work I heard the noise again, accompanied by oil temperature strangely low, turned out a couple of cam carrier bolts were loose, probably bleeding away oil pressure. I had used the wrong bolts or torque settings, put it right and no harm was done. had the car another couple of years after that with no issue.
try another garage, these engines are not high tech, should be no problem for any reputable garage.
