Just wanted to intorduce myself as a new member ... the names Dale Bowman and I'm soon to be looking for either a 300CE, E320 Coupe or possibly an E320 Sportline Cabriolet.
I used to own a 1989 300CE some years (well quite a lot of years) ago and recently fancied the idea of going back to one (or possibly one of the others mentioned.
Given the choices of the coupes is there a more "fancied" option between the two or are they much the same as far as reliabilty, running cost, etc etc and its really just personal choice.
Also, given that the Sportline is more money to start with, if I plan to keep the car for a long time would it be a better choice for holding its value (I assume it will have the same good/bad points of the coupes)

Thanks in advance Dale

Welcome to the forum!

Either car would be wonderful choice, I'm sure I'd be happy with either :) . I'm sure others more experienced in their foibles will be along to answer your questions.

Hello......great forum, cant wait too see some pics

Sportline isn't specifically a convertible thing. You can get Sportline coupes too. Sportline includes a quicker steering rack (and smaller steeering wheel) and stiffer anti roll bars, plus wider wheels.

The CE would be badged as a Sportline, but the later facelift E320 wouldn't.

The convertible will always be worth more than a coupe in similar spec and condition, and consequently, there is a smaller market for them. the coupe will alwys sell more easily, and if bought in top condition, and if kept that way, shouldn't lose much over the long term.

To my mind,, the best spec would be an E320 Coupe, with Sportline, full climate control, orthopaedic seats, 5speed auto, and a full history. Much like the one I recently sold, in fact

The coupe is more usable than the convertible, I reckon; less precious, and much more subtle...

Welcome Dale. Check out the Get To Gethers (GTCs) in your area. Some great meets and great people. The forum is a hoot too. Just got a 300CE myself currently at the paint shop. So welcome indeed, myself I'd go for a coupe. Got to agree with imadoofus much more usable. Go with your gut though, its never wrong (much)
