Hi Guys,

I have a S500L 2001 (W220) and the door locks are not responding (nor the boot relaease) from the key fob. Drivers door opens manually but when inside cannot use the botton for all doors unlock/ nor can i open the boot.

Key seems fine, is this the dreaded vacuum pump? How can I check? How do I get into the boot?

Thanks
Jig:(

Hi jig

It really needs to go on a star machine to comfirm but i would say it is the pse pump that has gone.

One thing to check behind the drivers seat there is a fuse box and the fuse for the pse is in there i would check to see if its blown. Its a 20amp fuse if my memory serves me correctly.

My money is on PSE pump (veteran of two replacements!)
You can get into the boot useing the metal key - on mine you have to rotate the key to one extreme position at which point the boot handle will operate, but you cannot remove the key in that position, so not possible to leave the boot "unlocked"

Hi I have had the same with my S500L 2001 the weird thing is if I manually unlock/open the boot then really slam the boot it seams to reset its self then everything works correctly

Quite bizarre!

All I could think is the softclose (if present) is telling the PSE to operate as the boot isn't shut (it thinks). The pump will only operate for a short period of time then automatically cuts out, so nothing else will work

Slamming the boot bypasses softclose & it's back to normal.

My last SL (230) had something similar - when it decided not to play I had to pull the fuse (which was always warm at that point) & stick it back in again to reset. That told me the pump had been working overtime on something.

Might be well worth getting the softclose sensor adjusted as this behaviour will only go on for so long before the PSE commits (assisted) suicide - and that's something you really, really don't want at £610+ a pop!

Thanks lxi you are correct my car has the soft close system wondered if it was a sensor but I must admit I don,t use the boot often so its not a frequent problem but will get it looked at

thanks guys for the advice. I was lucky only turned out to be the fuse, but now planning in water proofing the PSE Pump!
