Hi got the P0171 code again, engine management light off.

I changed the air filter a few months ago. I took the airbox out this evening. I am a rooky by the way – so no advice can be too basic for me!

I can’t visually see any problem with the breather hose underneath the box. No signs of deterioration, or splits.

The only thing I notice was a bit of oil in the large tube that goes down vertically into the engine at the rear, there is oil just at the junction where that difficult circular clip is.

I also notice a little smear of oil in the top hose that connects into the top of the engine. Will try to post some piccys.

My question

Do you think I should buy and change the MAF next? :D

Crivens! What about the MAF?

Car has done 70k, 2005 Petrol. What is most likely?

How do I take the supercharger off? Can't see a guide for that.

I have given the MAF a clean, looked fine to me, the two hoses I can inspect look ok.

I am going to run it and see what happens.

May try new MAF. If not may try removing the supercharger but that looks like hardwork for a rookie!

Cleaning the MAF rarely fixes them, make sure you buy a genuine MAF as some of the chinese clones are worse than an old broken MAF.

Cheers Mark, understood. Have take a look and I am offered:

Siemens one £210 inc VAT, delivery £7

OR/ genuine one is £265 inc VAT

Just giving my car a run and will report back.

The breather valve is probably doing sod all.
You'll need to remove the SC and replace the lower pipe work and valve.
It's the correct procedure

Understood. Is 113 on this image, the funny shaped witches hat rubber thingy?

I have put it back together, I can't see a guide to remove the supercharger and change those hoses. My Haynes has a bit of info but I am a rookie.

Not sure how you remove the pipework over the top of the supercharger. It may be out my league.

So you need the pipes and clips in the image?

Tell more WG........what does the valve do - is it one way, I am interested.

It's the crankcase vent valve.

I understand that the MAF are reliable, got it WG.

I am researching removing the SC. So far my engine management light has not come back on.

If it does and I need to renew the tubing - do I need to order all the parts illustrated above:
122
128
89
116
113
107

Many thanks for your help so far, appreciated.

Just an update.

I took the airbox out, inspected the hoses I could visually assess.

I gave the MAF a blast with PC compressed air cleaner. Put it back together, no engine management light.

I do wonder (coming from a PC background) if reseating those large (x2) and small (multiple) electrical connections makes a difference, a dry contact perhaps?

I don't know what made the difference because I made a few changes along the way.

My engine lights back on! Dohh!

Is it likely to be the MAF or the tubing under the supercharger? I have remove the airbox and the tube 122 looks in fine fettle. So perhaps it is the ones under the SC.

I can't find a guide on how to remove the supercharger to change the hoses - any help appreciated - I am a rookie, can it be done by a novice?

And do I need these parts:
125
122
128
89
116
113
107

Sniff, no advice?

My understanding is I will need parts
125
122
128
89
116
113
107

Plus 4 injector seals
Plus the gasket between the super charger and the engine.

Do I need anything else?
