Hi all could really do with some help / advice regarding my Auto motor.
Had some issues driving recently on motorway suddenly no acceleration no gears, turned ignition off all good then kept happening repeatedly. To cut a long story short we checked transmission oil (fine) replaced the conductor plate in gearbox and adapter plug.
Gearbox still erratic and not always changing gear, now when I have taken off the battery negative terminal briefly and reconnected- the gearbox runs silky smooth with no problems once I switch off the engine and start off again the erratic gear change comes back:wallbash:
The battery is the original so will probably need replacing but rather than spend out immediately I have hooked a spare battery up to original and the same is happening.
Any ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated - what to do next.

No codes currently coming up either?

Thanks in advance Chris

First check is as always operating voltage in the system!
I use a scanner and road test & observe voltage in general operation.
MUST be a static 13.6 to 14.2 volts with no spikes or drastic voltage changes that will make the car freak out!
First get the battery checked for correct charge, cranking amps & charge holding plus any battery aging issues.

You need to get it read by Star, Some scanners will not pick up the codes.

Yes correct
I use both, with Snap On Verus, and others, but Autologic is faster on set up for tasks like this where time is money in the shop and the concentration is looking at live data (Can Bus) and not necessarily codes .
Remember hoist and repair stall time is priced in hours & minutes count to the customer in diagnostics

sorry for delay getting back & thank you for the replies. Have contacted a specialist in Shrewsbury who has offered to look at it for me & can put it on Star.
Car still the same & I have now avoided driving it as do not want to cause further damage !
At worst could be used replacement box ( which he has for £250) plus £250 fitting plus diagnosis etc.
Undecided what to do or just part ex on for another car.
Shame to end my MB experience like this - decisions, decisions
