Car
C220 replaced by a C63
Hi,
I have had my 2012 C63 stolen.
I had a tracker fitted and my car has now been found with frontal damage the extent unknown.
My insurer has phoned me up this afternoon and asked me which way to go.
My options are to send to MB for repair or use their repairer.
If i use their repair centre they will send me a car and they said the repair would be quicker, not having to negotiate costs with MB.
If i go with MB and I am not satisfied it is between me and MB.
Having mixed experiences with MB I am unsure which way to go.
I dont need the hire car and the time is unimportant I just don’t want to end up in a battle with MB.
Any help input will be very much appreciated. Thanks,
Craig

Im sorry to hear about this.
How did they manage to drive off with it? Does it have keyless go?

If you do decide to keep it get 'ghost' fitted.

No helpful input I'm afraid but sorry to hear you've had it stolen. Gutting. Hope you get it sorted 👍.

Hi
I have just submitted my observations on a different thread and it does answer all your valid points.

1. Is your vehicle still covered by the Mobilo warranty?

If the answer is 'Yes' then go to '2'

2. Insist that your car be repaired by a Mercedes-Benz repair centre. The insurer may fight, may wriggle, may try to flannel you. Stand your ground. If the repair is carried out by their 'excellent' repair centre then you leave yourself open to negating Mobilo. My experience is that the MB approved repair centre has to be certified to meet the standards demanded by our marque.

If you are not covered by Mobilo then it is your choice but I know the choice I would make. No matter the choice, you are entitled to a hire car car.

Oh and you will not get in a fight with Mercedes-Benz, you can even let your MB dealer deal with the repair (or we can in the South-West) :)

Depends who the insurance company want to use to repair it. Crash repair centres are a joke, some poor tech gets so many minutes for each job, paint booth time is down to the minute etc, all of which adds up to a poor job.

MB approved body centre will have to do it to MB standards and issue you with the warranty paperwork. Obviously the MB approved route will help retain some of your cars value, but any problems are unfortunately going to be between you and them. Just make sure the insurance quote done by MB is thorough so no corners get cut.

They broke in the house while we were asleep, stole my tranny custom as well.

How far south west?

Sorry to hear your car was stolen and subsequently damaged. Unless you have a known good body repair shop I would take the Mercedes main dealer route.
When you get it back, fit an Autowatch Ghost. Having the keys will be of no use to a car thief with that fitted.

Sorry to hear about the theft!

In my opinion the question is basically one of finding a bodyshop who you can trust to do a high quality job. I'm not sure that would necessarily be either the Insurance Company's recommendation or Mercedes themselves, to be honest. I'd try and find a well recommended bodyshop in your area and get the car sent there to be mended.

AFAIK I would expect the insurance company to accept that as long as the cost isn't unreasonable.

If you have it repaired at Mercedes they can block the lost key(s) too.

Sorry to hear this. Sick of people doing things like this. Hope you get it sorted.
I would hand it to Mercedes and let them fix it that way you are pretty much guaranteed original parts will be used.

I would certainly be going down the MB approved route. You say you have had mixed experiences with MB, what are your concerns or doubts with MB approved? Whatever they are I would rather take a gamble with MB approved over any insurance companies favored repair centre.

I would imagine that your best result would be for MB repair costs to be too high and therefore the insurance company write the car off and you could start again with another clean car.

If you are asking 'how far south-west' then we are in the area of Mercedes-Benz South-West. Our nearest dealer is at Exeter.

Please understand that if anyone is suggesting you do not use the recommended Mercedes-Benz agent then you risk losing the Mobilo cover.

I hope Unimog does not object to my quoting his very sound advice?

The only prerequisite for Mobile is to have all due services carried out by Mercedes service partner. There is nothing I can find regarding accident repairs also being carried out by Mercedes.

How can Mercedes warrant someone else’s bodywork? :dk:

I’m pretty sure it covers the bodywork for corrosion etc too. Certainly used to! :)

The 30 year anti perforation warranty requires it to be done by an MB approved body centre.
