On two occasions in the last week or so I've experienced a strange judder at about 70mph. When it first happened it felt as if the car had changed down a gear then quickly changed back up which gave a jolty type judder. The same thing happened tonight on the motorway at about 70mph and juddered again. My first phone call tomorrow will be to the local MB garage as the car is only 10 months old and this sort of thing bugs me!

Any ideas fellow MB members on what this could be?:dk:

Just a thought.
What speed is your speed limiter set too? It may be cutting in when it shouldn't?

Neil

Wheel balance would be a good first guess. Maybe a balancing weight or strip has been knocked off.

I've never used or set the speed limiter - will check it out, thanks.

Shouldn't ask but does the judder go away again at higher speeds? Wheel balance or defective tyre judders often manifest themselves within particular speed ranges.

I'm on my way outside with my torch to check the weights, it feels more like the engine / transmission cutting out to cause the judder rather than a vibrating judder from the wheels - good shout though, just going out to look........

Wheelnuts, when I get to in excess of 130mph it feels fine! Just joking of course...........it only seems to happen when I get to about 70mph and it's only happened twice and I do a fair bit of motorway driving. This makes me think it could be something to do with the speed limiter - confused.com but hopefully MB will know more tomorrow.

Thanks for all your comments gents.............

Hi,
Get the car into MB if it is only 10 months old, and even if they aren't able to diagnose/cure the fault they can log the issue.
Could you describe it as a shudder? does it seem to be through the steering or the body? The fact that you described as you did I think this is more like a transmission/driveline fault.

Certainly feels more like transmission/driveline issue Andy. Have been to MB Southampton today so all booked in for a check over. Fingers crossed.........
