Hi guys
i have a 2007 CL500 W216 (non keyless) and I LOVE it
I use it as a second car so it may only get used once every few weeks
firstly my stereo refused to work and my central locking was playing up
so I took the plunge and purchased both (in trunk & under bonnet) batteries from MB
the car now starts every time but I always have to open it with the small internal key - after running it for a while the locking will work once or twice
the stereo still refuses to work - the windows & boot also play up
the clock always resets itself when I put the key in the ignition and it seems to always be put it on SPORTS mode on the dash
PLEASE CAN SOMEONE SHED LIGHT ON THIS FOR ME
yours in anticipation

Have you checked the output from the alternator? That's where I'd start (and finish), then book it into an indie for a Star diagnostic. Otherwise you could be throwing money at the problem unnecessarily. Someone on here may be able to recommend an indie in the Leeds area. From experience these 216's don't like standing around unused for weeks at a time.

Yes, an MB independent can help, but personally, I'd take it to a car electrician.

As was said above, the issue is probably not the battery but simply charging from the alternator, but it may also be something to do with memory settings getting lost between batteries.

I don't recognise the suggestion that W216 / W221 batteries can't cope with being left for a month at a time. I've done it many a time, and longer. (R230's: that's a different story).

But I do put my car batteries on a CTEK battery conditioner (not a charger) twice a year. Last battery I replaced was in 2001 when charging wasn't an option because of where the car was.

I had an electrical problem with my W216, and it turned out to be some sort of regulator on the alternator. It was a relatively cheap fix from what I remember; the Mercedes specialist (Alex Crow in Stowmarket) fixed it for me.
