I would certainly go back to your MB indy to ask why issue root cause was overlooked? there may be a genuine reason, but I would want to know...

hi guys

so today i had the chance to pick up a brand new braided earth strap form halfords

i found an spare threaded hole on the engine attached it to that and to one of the original earth points .

and to my amazment its all back to normal

the car is running 14.2 volts as if nothing ever went wrong.


its hard to believe that a mercedes specialist could not diagnose this fault after hunderds and hundereds of pounds later , i had to fix it my self


i cannot thank you guys enought for your help, i have been on many forums in the past few years and somtimes the members seem a bit usless, bu this is not the case with this one.

Those of you old enough to remember manual Chokes will also know that the choke cable was often the only return path to earth when the Engine earth strap corroded.

Often seen melted plastic coating and even growing red-hot cables when there's no other way for the starter to get it's power...

Fantastic. .. glad you manage to fix the problem. .. out of curiosity how much was the cost of the cable? I bet under a tenner.. it shows that complex problem dont necessarily need expensive solutions if you know what you are doing

Yea the car is back to its former glory running 14.2v now with no more issues

Sorry it's been so.long since I posted have been away with work.


And the earth strap was £5.50 in the end bit of a bargain in my eyes.

Don't worry I will.be ringing mercedes this week as I want answers considering they were Paided to check the earth points
