I'm looking to buy these wheels to fit to my E series (2004), they were off a SLK R170 and are currently fitted with 225/45/17 Front and 245/40/17 Rear. The owner had the wheels refurbished and this has covered over the markings, all I know is that they are 17". Is there any other way to find out what the offset is? was this style only supplied in one version?

I'm not worried about having to change the tyres if needed but I want to avoid buying a wheel that is not suitable for the car. Looking up the wheel options the SLK has a few variations two of which are 17x8 ET30 and 17x7.5 ET 37, both are close to an E series option of 17x8 ET38 but are they close enough?

Can anyone help?

They are indeed Adharaz but I'm not sure they would fit your car. The SLk has wider rear wheels than front hence the difference.

Yes that was my worry, if I could find a way to confirm the the rims were the same front and back I could change the tyres so they would fit. I wanted to have 245/45/17 fitted the the car anyway. Do you know if it was standard practice to have a wider rim on the rear to take a bigger tyre?

I can only say for the SLK but yes it was always intended to have wider on the rear to take a bigger tyre. I thought E class had the same fitment all round, but could be wrong.

The link you actually need to check is this one:

http://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/information/fitting_chart/mercedes-benz

taken from this thread:

http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=25278

which covers most if not all wheel size and offset questions.

Looki ng at it for these, the wider rims would be OK, but the narrower ones wouldn't. BUut please double check in case I've got it wrong.

Thanks for the feedback, think I'll have to pass on them as without being able to see what the rim size is I can't be sure they will fit. In the list from your link they show a few 17" wheels of different widths and some sets with wider rear rims. Without the rim code that now can't been seen I have no way it seems of being able to check this and as you say the SLK does have wider rear fittings.

I am sure the SLK ones are 16" and the C-Class and CLK are 17"

Stanard SLK are 16", but you can get 17" too for the SLK ;)
