W213
Hi guys,

Seeking for advice what to do..
So I bought W213 in 2018 with 1.5 years left of manufactur warranty.. since then car was served at MB startford. About half year was left of original warranty and little by little I've started to smell so2 inside the vehicle especially when motor was running and car was standing.. contacted with MB for repair (had other problems with the car so about fumes I've told when I came to their reception as an additional check)..when I've got car back been told that all good now and everything works as it should, but when I sit into vehicle to go home I felt same smell as before and switched off air intake from outside just not to breath that gas (then it was not strong but hey if car manufacturer tells that this is how it should be then okay..) .. and since then I always keep switching off air intake from outside. so later warranty expired and MB offered to take an extended warranty with them and I took it. now it's a 1year from that date when MB checked where's the gas leaking from.. MOT test! next to my home is a halfords center so I booked test there. and forgot about that trick with switching air intake, guy who done the test jumped from the car and said what the hell blablabla.. so obviously not passed only because of that. now going to MB startford, explaining what's happening, later that day got call from them saying that MOT now passed and that turbo needs to be replaced and that is 2500 pounds!!!! well I thought that will be maybe exhaust flexi pipe or other broken connection in exhaust system but he insured me 100% turbo is damaged and flames is visible under the bonnet.. that is crazy I cant believe it why I'm not refused to drive away on day 1... So now is a week past still waiting respond from them about what goodwill they will offer me.. but I think that this is their mistake and they must repair it for free.. advice please

POST YOUR VIN NUMBER AND ENGINE TYPE. Sounds as if you have had a turbo oil leak for some time and this oil was burning off on the engine/exhaust-- I assume the turbo bearings have now given up-- You should be able to source a repair by a Turbo SPECIALIST USING A RECONDITIONED UNIT for perhaps about half that cost depending on engine type. If you post your location someeone may be able to suggest a specialist near you?

engine type not sure..couldn't locate it under the bonnet..
engine code no. is 65492080033902
variant U014P0
version CZAZ15B2

thanks for the help, but do you think that should be fixed from my pocket when they failed to find issue when car was still under warranty??
..by the way, car runs fine, sometimes you can hear whistle when motor is idle.. I'm from Ilford

Hi guys,

Seeking for advice what to do..

In hindsight It's too late to offer this advice to you. For anyone else I would always advise to put it in writing if you are not happy with a repair/service/warranty issue etc at the time of the work being carried out and that their work has not fixed the issues. Keep them informed in writing of any developments , continuation or worsening of the issues. Keep this pressure of putting the responsibilities on the the person who has been tasked with the work. It does take time and is a nuisance that you should need to do this but you require an audit trail off correspondence as proof of evidence in the event of any claim against them. I find this method always works in the event of shoddy workmanship that the outcome will be favourable to you.

Legally you're not in a strong position for reasons given above---only hope would be if your chassis no [not recognised as given ] was say subject to a turbo recall which was missed by the MB agent for example- unlikely. You might spend a lot of money to contest the issue and be no further forward- whatever -- your best / cheapest option is a merc turbo specialist- who as well as giving you a cheaper solution will be aware of any inherent weakness/ recall on your model

this advice is not based on laws of natural justice but the reality of your situation - good luck

if any of you could recomend me a merc turbo specialist here in east of london would be great.. thanks again

found invoice when first time problem was mentioned to dealer, at the time I had "engine light on" in cluster so they changed nox sensor and here is a proof of concerns, doesn't say nothing about what I was concerning for... all started just few months after owned the car, next time problem was mentioned after 4 months when had another problem with the car (battery was replaced) but nothing about engine concerns on the invoice.. so have only one old invoice. is that helps me?

Too vague- not specific to any fault-doesn't mention FUMES /symptoms / fault codes etc ON PAPER so not likely to carry any weight.

I think they doing this in purpose, I can only say to you guys- be careful when dealing with them.. now i know that all proof need's to be on paper with all details

Hi Reg , welcome. It's a shame you didn't post on here six months ago. We all would have told you that having to close off fresh intake and use recirculation every time you drove the car because of fume smell inside was the opposite of how it should be.

Good luck with sorting it out . :thumb:

I HIGHLY recommend these guys. Ultra professional. Box it up and they will send their courier to collect it. I sent one on a Monday and it was back by the Friday like new! 👌
