W204 C180K Saloon 2009
I’m looking to by a new car but I’m torn between 2 different cars. Both are W204 C-classes.

I could either get a 2014 c250 CDI coupe or a 2012 c350 CDI saloon.

Both similar mileage (around 60k). The c350 is about £1k more expensive. I really wanted wanted a coupe but couldn’t find any c350 CDI coupes. (I don’t think they’re available in the UK)

What each car offers:
The c250 has more features and add ons due to it being AMG sport edition premium plus. Where as the c350 is just AMG sport plus. The c250 comes with the bi-xenon DRL headlights, where as the c350 has standard halogen headlights (although I could easily upgrade to better headlights myself after purchase for about £400). The c350 does have a surround sound Harman Kardon system which is quite appealing. The added space from the saloon isn’t really required for my needs but is still nice to have. Obviously the extra power from the c350 V6 is a huge plus but the power of c250 is still more than sufficient for me.
The c250 will get me better mpg but then again it’s all about smiles per gallon.

I really can’t decide what to go for. Someone help me out haha

Welcome, personally I'd go for the coupe, lovely looking motor, and would suit you better, being 20. Plus it's newer, you are right, you can't get a 350 in the,
C class coupe. Have you considered an,
E class coupe? even better looking than the,
C class imo, and you can get a 350 in that model, pick the right car, and you'll have all toys aswell. :) 👍

I would love to have an E class coupe, but my dad has one! Haha. I can’t have two of the same cars in the household. (Or maybe I can, but I’m just picky). I personally prefer the the look of the c class coupe, but that’s probably because I have always dreamed of having a w204 c63 from a young age. Still can’t decide if I want to give up performance for the looks, and I’ve been trying to decide for over a 3-4 weeks! But the coupe does look a whole lot better I must say. It’s a hard one

I don’t know be honest I just feel like it’s better if we all have different cars. Dad has an e250, mum has 1 series, brother has an Audi A4 and I have a c180

Sounds like you've made your mind up, and the C250 coupe is hardly a snail,
0-60 7secs and 150mph
Out of curiosity what colour is the one your looking at? :) 👍

Black all the way

Hi Ruhan and welcome. If you have your mind set on a W204 C class. Make sure you have the rear sub frame inspected by someone who knows what he or she is looking at. Do not rely on a recent MOT as proof of a sound rear sub frame.

Google the subject and also search on here.

Thanks for the info👍. Not heard of this rear sub frame issue before

On a general note, I prefer a younger car to an older higher-spec one.

Thats, said, it's all to down to condition.... I bought my 2013 W204 after going to see a 2014 car that had the colour I wanted, plus COMAND, dual sunroof, and reverse camera, but I ended-up buying the 2013 car that had none of these options simply because it was in immaculate condition and evidently well looked after by the previous owner, while the 2014 car looked tired and had signs of a not-so-careful previous owner. 4 years later I don't regret it, the W204 has proven to be a fantastic buy (and I had COMAND and tbe reverse camera retrofitted, though obviously not the sunroof), and being OCD I could not have lived with a previously-neglected car.

The W204, S204 are good cars generally. mercedes went to great length to improve the quality over the previous generations. Don't be put off by all the negativity. Find a nice one if its what you want. All cars have their issues, every single one, even jap cars.. Buy the car you like. :)

From what I read online, the rotting subframe issue only affects W204 cars built up to mid-2013. Either way, they don't all rust, and those that do, do not do so overnight, so if you get the subframe inspected by a specialist who knows what to look for, then you should be fine.

And, if buying from a trader, you'll have statutory warranty for the first 6 months anyway.

And last, if you buy a car with full main dealer service history, and keep it this way (using the MB Service Care Plan), then you are more likely to be able to get goodwill warranty repair from MB if the worst does happen.

The 'problem' is that the rotting subframe issue does not seem linked to a particular batch of W204 C class cars - or if it is it has not been collated - usually when a particular car has a known issue engine/gearbox/bodywork issue it gets pinned down to certain factors and can usually be traced through the VIN/time of build and forums like this one.

Personally I think that it is more widespread , as time goes on and the cars get (even) older more sub frame failures will be reported.

Getting it fixed for free/subsidised by MB is also appears to be hit and miss . When you do your research you will find stories of MB refusing to accept responsibility even on cars with a full MB service history all the way to MB replacing the sub frame free of charge on cars with basic service history.

As said , if you find a W204 C class you like INSIST on a proper rear sub frame inspection .

Caveat Emptor

I have the c250 amg premium sports plus ( my god that’s a pretentious mouthful) full black with black wheels. Absolutely love the car. Ok it’s never going to be c63 quick but it’s plenty powerful for what we need and it really does turn heads.

Not sure about the 'Premium' as that's 205 territory assuming you have a Sport Plus 204 ?

But there seems to be a Sport Edition Premium Plus as late run out models ?
