SLK350
hi all, this is my first posting and its great to see what other people have wrote in this forum. i hope i can help others in time.

i am not that technically minded but am really stumped.

i have within the last week bought a slk350 r171 moving from the r170 slk. this car i bought had comand/navigation and i can work everything but how do i connect my phone upto it?

when i bought the car the dealer said it had telephone pre wire? the equipment i have is as follows:- the comand/nav unit and the bluetooth hfp phone cradle that connects in its compartment under the armrest (it flashes every so often) do i need anything esle? i have read all the booklets but cannot get it to work. i first search for bluetooth devices, its spots my phone i enter the numbers to authorsie it together and then it just dosnt connect. if you press telephone twice on the comand unit it will take a little moment while saying something along the lines of activating telephone but it then states please switch on phone (whats that all about as the phone is switched on).

i have tried 3 phones (recent models) but they all states the same thing.

do i have to buy a cradle for the phone as well or as i have the bluetooth hfp cradle it dosnt need one.

thanks
steve

Turn your phone on. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled.
Press and hold down the top of the HFP cradle until the blue light flashes more quickly.
Tell your phone to search for devices.
When it finds MB Phonesystem, connect to that device.
enter the code which is 62872

The phone should then pair.

If your phone is not on the list of supported phones then you may need a different cradle (SAP).

What phone do you have?

Press and hold down the top of the HFP cradle until the blue light flashes more quickly.

For further clarification, its a hidden button which is what 'bluetooth' word is printed on (ie press on the bluetooth word) - which I think is the bottom of the upper surface of the HFP cradle

hi alfie and richard, i'll have a go on your advise. many thanks. i have 2 phones, work and my own. 1) nokia 6021 and 2) motorola r1zr.

after using the system over the weekend the nokia 6021 works well. have also tried a few samsung phone including the u600 and it can work but it does play up a bit by sometimes only part connecting, you dont have options to the phones phonebook as well.

any ideas which is the best cradle for a nokia 6500 on a W204? I'm assuming the SAP one???

If the inbuilt head unit bluetooth doesnt do enough for you, then, the SAP works very well with W204 and with 6500

Cheers

Richard

The internal unit uses HFP protocol (headset protocol) but isnt that good at downloading the phonebook. As it is behaving as a headset, the phone's aerlal is used. For instance, it wont download Nokia E or N (N73 is OK though) series phonebooks, so you have to send phone numbers you want individually across

The SAP puts the phone in a low power mode, and uses the car's antenna - but, really, the only things that work with SAP are newer Nokia phones. SAP also works properly with phonebook download on the newer Nokia phones including newer E and N series, you get SMS working properly as-well

If you've paid for the extra phone kit and have a newish Nokia (which you do), i'd put the SAP cradle in

I wonder if Mercedes direct stock them? Maybe i can get a 'with the car' discount? If not, comandonline looks like the place to buy from.. what sort of delivery time am i looking at from them?

197 was what he said (clearly the man had the wrong cradle in mind!) Have given the doofus the part number now so hopefully he will give me the price her really means!

I have a motorola V3 bluetooth UHI cradle - it works via bluetooth but you slide the phone into it to charge....I am assuming when I am using it and the phone is in my pocket it is working in HFP mode. But when I slide it into the cradle it charges the phone -- but...does it now work off the car aerial or is it still in HFP mode?

Cheers

ps.. I have tried pairing other bluetooth phones to it but to no avail...is seems to only talk to motorola V3 or V3i phones.

Hands Free Installation - New Nokia

Hi Everybody,

I have just joined the MB Club UK and this is my first posting.

I have recently acquired a new SLK 280 Auto (replacing a company car on retirement !); I specified the Mercedes hands free pre-wiring option but didn't have a mobile phone at the time (company supplied mobile to be replaced too !!).

I now have a new mobile phone, a Nokia 6288 slider, but my local Mercedes dealer tells me they can't supply a cradle for this phone (or most of the newer phone models now available !) and can not offer any suggestions as to how I get my new phone to connect to the hands free features that the car can offer; other than to swop the phone for a much older model that will fit one of the cradles they do offer !!!!

I joined the Nokia communications forum to seek advice and got some really helpful stuff from a gent called Scooby who was also able to advise of a specialist company near me in Woking who deals with this sort of MB problem regularly. I have yet to contact them.

I have however written to the MB HQ in Milton Keynes asking for their help in resolving the problem and await a reply; and I would be interested in hearing about others who have had - and have solved - this sort of problem recently.

Thanks

Does it have bluetooth? If so you can get a bluetooth cradle - There are two types so you will have to be sure what type of bluetooth your phone has -- is it SAP? SIm access protocol

PM Richard - he is an expert on phones etc etc

Mercedes Excellent Customer Service

Hi Everybody,

I just thought I would let you know that I had a reply from Mercedes regarding the car cradle problem (I had written to their MD and this did seem to work!).

They say that they hope to be able to offer cradles for more up-to-date phones "soon" and will get back to me when they can support my particular Nokia phone.

The really good news is that, in the interim, they have arranged to supply and fit their Bluetooth cradle B6787 5877; which has now been fitted at Mercedes Guildford, and I can report that this seems to work fine, apart from the lack of a charging facility for the phone.

Obviously I am delighted with the level of customer support that MB has provided and will put up with having to charge the phone, either at home or in the car, via a separate charger, until they can supply a more appropriate cradle.

Regards

Robin194
