Hi everyone doing the dreaded oil cooler failed seals jobbie.
Removed the oil cooler and stupidly tipped it upside down instinctively to stop the fluids spilling out. The bolts went everywhere and I’m going nuts trying to find 1 of the bolts. The spilled out over the cooler oil galleries and to the front of the engine bay. I’ve checked the galleries borescoped and vacuumed the oil and coolant galleries but can’t find anything.
also checked the inlet ports.
Long story story short I’m one bolt down, missing 1 of the 10 oil cooler bolts.
Does anyone have this experience, do you think the bolts are small enough to get stuck in the oil galleries.
Is there anyway I can pressure the oil galleries, I’m assuming when I turn the engine over there will be pressure from one side to the other, I’m wondering if anyone has more knowledge on this.
It’s really messed my brain up guys. Need some help 🤦🏽‍♂️

Not gone down the exhaust manifold, has it?
It’s always a good idea to place rag in all the ports and other holes, to stop this problem.

Bit late for that ....but anyone who has worked on an engine has done similar . My latest was replacing the (16) spark plugs in my AMG and I dropped a short socket extension into the very tight engine bay.

While trying to fish it out (magnet too weak) it fell on to the undertray , finished the job and drove the car up and down our quiet dead end road to try and get the Ba$tard thing to roll somewhere sensible.

No chance , lifted front end , removed undertray . I was on the drive and it was raining

I'd have left it there until I had reason to remove the tray....I left a 10mm ring spanner there fora month until I replaced my radiator!

Jesus buddy !
Might it have bounced and ended up on the undertray or the floor somewhere ?

I had that thought but it was rolling around and making a bit of a noise, but it would NOT roll to where I wanted it to roll !
