Any guidance would be much appreciated. It appears that the ECU has died on my 1988 560SEC. MB Part Number 0065455432 or Bosch 0227400701. Does anyone know where to find a reliable used unit, thanks for your help, Graeme

I may well have one for you as a friend of mine has a 560SEC with only 101,000 miles on the clock which he has owned for the last 15 years, but sadly it looks as if its going to get broken for spares as the bodywork has gone in a big way.

Mechanically its spot on and its been well serviced. I'll let you know what he decides to do.

Better to describe it as an electronic ignition unit rather than an ECU since most folks associate that name with the larger engine control units?

really common problem this... i sold the last one I had... now if any of mine go i wont have a replacement...

Thank you Vlad, looks like you are my best hope. I spoke to one ECU repair place. He asked me for the Bosch part number which I did not have but said I would get. He than said if it starts with 0227 (which mine does) don't bother calling me back, they cannot be repaired. I will try ecu testing ,com, once again thanks for all your help, cheers Graeme

Does anybody else need some parts for a 560SEC.....engine is a peach...if I can convince him that there are some takers for parts, then it may make up his mind for him!

thanks retrosave111, that would be very much appreciated. I did speak to the chaps on piperalphas original link, they could not help but gave me another phone numbr, thanks to all once again, Graeme

ecu-testing cannot help, they gave me a number for blue streak that connot help. Hopefully fingers, legs and everything crossed including eyes that either retrodave or vlad can help, yours rather uncomfortable, Graeme ;)

Thanks Jaymanek. Spoke to BigJ this evening but his part number from an 86 car is 0045450032 and 0227400606. Retrodave whats yours ?.
Hi Greg, no I succumbed to the call of the euro exchange rate and sold the 993GT2 back to the German dealer I purchased it from. With so much economic uncertainlty I thought it best to sell whilst I did not need the money rather than to wait until I did.

graeme mine is the same number as bigJ's, the number you want is the only one that will suit your car, so will have to come off an 1989 or newer 560, dave

Finally picked a used one up from a chap by the name of Danny, "cars with stars". He had an F plate 560SEC and thankfully the ecu has the same part number. Fired the car up for me before he took the ecu off. £350 not cheap but almost the third of the price of a new one.

Make sure that both mating surfaces ---wing and base of unit are clean and free of corrosion and make sure you give the mating surfaces a good coat of heat sink compound before clamping them together--- lack of good thermal conductivity is what causes these units to overheat and fail .
