Can anyone help please? When I am online for varying periods, the mouse freezes and the only cure seems to be to restart pc. It seems to happen when I go to type something in (this is the 3rd try to complete this query)
Is it a faulty mouse problem ( ie I need to replace mouse) or is it something else?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you.

if its a USB mouse , try it in another USB port

Get you hands on any old mouse would be the simple test. Could be some sort of virus or some other un savoury program running riot in your pc though. Worth doing virus scan as ware scan etc.

What kind of mouse is it? Have you given it a good clean?

If it's a wirelss mouse - have you replaced the batteries?

If it's a ball mouse - then try taking it apart and giving it a good clean - they get filthy inside and that can make them appear to cease up ;)

If it's wireless, the range is not a great as you may think. I have loads of wireless mouses (meeses/mices/etc/etc) in my office, and two of them conflict. No cure found so far. Fortunately, one of them is used by a guy who NEVER DOES ANY BL**DY WORK so it's not a serious problem.

However, that's another possibility.

Brrrrrrrr! Nippy!

Maybe battery on cordless mouse or stop keeping it in the freezer :p Lost count of the number of people that have thrown away their cordless mouse and keyboards and resorted to wired connections

I have this problem on my work laptop, I got annoyed swapping USB ports every hour or so. I got myself a USB-PS2 adaptor and have plugged the mouse in to the PS2 port now, been working fine ever since.....

Ive got a cordless mouse and that has (in the battery compartment) a small switch for changing frequency same on the base station,You could try that if yours is similar.

Thank you all for your advice. The mouse I have is wired to a socket at back of pc (USB ports are at front of pc) and I cannot see anywhere else to plug it in.. I ran a virus check (another story/nightmare) I cleaned mouse. I guess I should replace mouse and see what happens.

Can you borrow a mouse from elsewhere and that will tell you whether the issue lies with your PC or mouse. I'm pretty sure you can get a wired ball mouse for less than a tenner these days.
