Help Please SLK R172

Have just acquired SLK R172
How far should the boot open when using key fob
Boot opens about 6" and is very heavy to push up from there.
Is this normal?

It will not open much from the fob. Pretty much just a crack. If its very hard to raise then it may need new struts. They wear quite quickly as the boot lid etc is very heavy. Just done the job on our 171. 10 minute job and the struts are about 11 pounds each.

Our one just click open as well, similar to when you pop the bonnet. We than lift it up but its not too heavy. I always thought thats how it supposed to be. Even if not, never bothered us.

Mine also opens just a little, it is also quite heavy to lift but not excessive. Think having just come from an ML with power opening and closing it just feels heavier than it is.

Our R172 was quite light compared to the boot lid on the current R171 - may be it needs new struts?

Same here, both previous R172s and the new SLC boot lid just opens an inch or so. Boot lid not that heavy.
