No more cars!
Hi guys,

I'm going to advertise my beloved CLS55 soon and I'm not sure what to price it at - any feedback would be appreciated!

Below is a draft advert - mechanically the car needs nothing, and as you can see no expense has been spared to bring this car to peak state.

What I do not have is the original options list. Does anyone know how I can find this please?

Many thanks in advance.

Rehan

  • 2005 Mercedes CLS55 AMG

Additional Maintenance and Upgrades

I have a severe case of OCD so have spared no expense in order to keep the car looking and running as new. All of the below is fully documented. I also had the car tuned by Eurocharged Watford in Sep 2015 - I have a receipt for £3400 of work but not an itemised breakdown.

  • 07 Jun 2014 - New OEM wheel nuts (£149.52).
  • 16 Aug 2014 - Full Geo at Center Gravity (£322.88).
  • 17 Oct 2014 - New OEM windscreen by Glasstec / Glassman (£460).

  • 23 Sep 2015 - Eurocharged Tuning (£3,400). LSD, SLR gearbox software, ECU remap, bigger Supercharger pulley, etc. Dyno shows 533hp and 600lbs torque.
  • 18 Dec 2015 - 4 New tyres (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 M0).
  • 23 Jul 2016 - New OEM Wheel arch film - applied after detail (£50).
  • 29 Jul 2016 - Full detail by Divine Detail - Kamikaze coating to bodywork, wheels and trim, Gliptone leather, Angel wax H2Go & GTechniq Smart Fabric (£550).
  • 01 Aug 2016 - Replaced one rear tyre due to small bulge (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2).
  • 23 May 2017 - New EBC brake pads all round plus OEM brake fluid change (£TBC).

Known Issues

  1. Drivers side lumbar support has a very slow leak. Eurocharged took the seat apart and recommended against changing the bladder unit due to cost - they suggested just re-inflating using the seat button when you need it. Personally I do not inflate the support as it causes me back pain!

That's all - just one minor issue! :)

Extras

  1. All invoices and receipts provided in a folder.
  2. All manuals in MB wallet including Europe COMAND DVD.
  3. Both keys provided.

That looks lovely. I especially like the fact that you have kept the correct 18" AMG IV wheels. I'd imagine that you should offer it for £12500 and take £11500

Many thanks for the prompt responses and data card details guys!

I just remembered the front two keyless handles don't work (I use the key fob). I paid Eurocharged to order them from MB but they went out of business before they arrived! Still trying to get my money back.

Wave goodbye to getting a penny back from E.C Watford.
Some people lost a fortune, along with parts removed from their cars.
A very dodgy operation all round.

Lovely properly cared for Car Glwts

Thanks. I want it to go to an enthusiast who appreciates what it is and what I've done to it. Worst case I'll SOR it with the dealer. Don't really want to stick it on Autotrader.

As many people, myself included, found to their cost..if you paid Eurocharged for the parts using a credit card I'd advise speaking to your bank as they may well be able to help.

Why not advertise it here? It's looks a nice example and they are becoming sought after. I'd say it could easily make £13/14K. Good luck whichever way you go.

Many thanks. Yes I will advertise it here after I get the pads and fluid changed next week.

You could try putting your vehicle details in the autotrader valuation online website, for a subjective price...

I would say £13500-£14000k

Any valuation guide is pointless on a modded car, not that there is anything wrong with what you've done to it but it narrows an already narrow market and in the normal market that really hurts the value.

A 'normal' dealer likely wouldn't be interested or will offer you an insulting price as they may have trouble selling it as most buyers would be put off by any mods.

The market for you're car is on enthusiast forums and then you just need to find a buyer who appreciates what you've done and prepared to pay extra for mods they may have done themselves.

Given the popularity of the CLS and the history of modding the 55K I'm sure you'll have no problem finding that someone but a value is even more so than normal what someone is prepared to pay for it. I would've thought what Lenny suggested is a fair asking price and then cross your fingers.

Absolutely! Hence my point on response 4. The external market (i.e. autotrader etc) has these offered at 12500 to 13500. A tuned one, despite you spending well in it, adds no value to it.

Speaking for myself - I have modified and tuned loads of cars that I have bought through the years, but I would never buy one that someone else had modified : I just wouldn't trust it had been done right and that the components were what I would have chosen.

Additionally it would always be in the back of my mind regarding what extra abuse the car may have suffered or extra stress non upgraded components have had due to the modifications.

I would really have to know the car and the owner very well before I'd even consider buying a modified car. I may be alone, but I think at resale a modified car is a turn off to most people.

Not trying to be contentious or detract from your car - it looks gorgeous and is a credit to you. [emoji106]

When you say you have modified and tuned loads of cars, did you do it all yourself or you ordered the parts and had them fitted by a garage? Which is no different to what the majority of other owners do? How could the cars be so different they put you off? :dk:

I've done both - depended on the car and if I'd have fun learning or just wanted a result.

Chassis stuff - (coilovers - corner weight setup on some / adjustable damper / spring, geometry changes, bushings, roll bars etc on others), big brake kit replacements, exhausts, intercoolers, ECU - remapping (simple as ECU map reflash using standard stage tunes up to openECU playing around with maps and on-line telemetry) and other stuff.

Effectively at one point in my life I enjoyed tuning and car set up as a hobby and at other times of my life I had to augment or modify cars because I did lots of track stuff (I used to live 3hrs from the nordschleife).

I guess the difference, and I see your point, was that I got to choose the components, any companys engineering help that I was going to use as part of my overall goals for the car, which company I wanted to build a relationship with and how I perhaps wanted the work done.

Most folks I know who have been modifying cars for a while, generally have an idea of how they would like a car to behave for the scenario they are building it for, they know the tradeoffs and balancing act that they are working in and make their choices on that - and it's quite a personal thing.

So buying a pre-modified car - even if the previous work is great and the component quality is good still may mean that I'd be undoing some of it to start again for my personal direction rather than with the compromises the previous owner made.. in which case why pay a premium? Just start with a standard well maintained car?

This is it in a nutshell.

Having sold my modded E55K, there is a small but strong market for these 55K-based cars and your car appears to be at the upper end of the market.
