Thanks Graham. The only car I actually want is a C55AMG but given that I drive 12-15k miles a year and given ever rising fuel costs, unfortunately it would bankrupt me!

The cars I really want are V8 but even though I do about a quarter of your annual miles, I still can't bring myself to buy one for fear of fuel and tax prices.

I'm thinking 3ltr+ TDI (with tuning) is the way to go.

The itch was caused by a C63 AMG performance Pack, an SLS AMG and a 5litre Lexus IS f. All V8 all mentally fast....all a fortune to run.

Get a C55. One of the best cars ever made.

How many lives do you have? Just the one.

I voted keep it but what you really want is the same thing with a bigger engine.

Compared to a 1.8, a 3+litre doesn't need tuning...
You might think it needs a few more horses, and then, you realise you are already over the speed limit. It's about torque, 6 seconds of fun, enough to seriously embarrass an RS Focus blowing its turbo. Most of the time its about following the box in front of you, in comfort. 200+ horsepower is the ability to do twice the motorway speed limit (a wasted luxury), torque is for acceleration. 3-odd litres gives decent fuel economy too.

Greg, its a lovely car, I think those engines can go well above 200k. I know shudes car which IIRC is the same basic engine (or I am wrong) would had well over 200k. I've been in 202s and 208s with big miles on 4pot petrols.

If you like it, keep her. If you want to sell it for very little money go ahead, its nice motoring for someone else, I'd snap it up if it were very very cheap :P

I voted ' keep it' knowing how much time and effort you have put into it but...
Ollie has a point too.
Trouble is he has made me think about mine which is just approaching 98K miles and doesnt have anything like the mods your has.

Bugger! Now what do I do?

LOL. Buy a C55 and put me on the insurance:cool:;)

OK Guys-Wobble over! I'll be keeping R2. I agree with the 93% who voted keep. I know the car inside out and it looks great and I've done my mods. I'll keep it and maybe see if I can't find some new mods to me interested:) Thank you for all your helpful comments:)

My C230k was the older M111 engine which was a 2.3 litre with a low-ish pressure supercharger. At 200k it was needing an exhaust manifold repair and a supercharger pulley bearing but that's about it.

R2s is a M271 which is a newer, (mitsubish-sourced?) 1.8 litre.

Do I read that you have decided to keep your car after all R2? Just as well, you'd not enjoy a '55 at all...

What???

I was led to believe some of the supercharged 1.8s were part of the GEMA programme which was disbanded a couple of years ago. Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Chrysler designed a 4-cylinder engine together. (no bad thing - mitubishi get a lot of power out of their little 4-bangers!).

I just did a little reading and tbh it looks like the m271 was never part of this.

The old 2.3L unit was a gem. I miss that engine so much, not the car though...!
