Hi. Can someone help me please.

I appear to have the following version of Navigation installed on the hard -drive of my 2006 S-Class W221 S320 CDI:

DB_DCW221_ECE_ECE_V11.003

Could someone tell me what the above code stands for please?

I know that the latest version for my car is Version 9 and that the DVD required would be:

Mercedes 2010 Navigation COMAND DVD S-class/CL-class A221 827 67 59 NTG3

Part Number: A221 827 6759

So, is the version I have Version 8.0 or 7.0 or earlier please?

Many thanks.

Ignore what I said before, thought yours was DVD based. I thought the hard disk based Comand units didnt come out till 2009 but the NTG3 does indeed have a hard disk.

Dont think that DB code is to do with the version of maps.

Hi. Well, I managed to get hold of Version 8 of Maps for a W221 and insert it into the DVD drive of the Comand unit.

After a few moments, it asks me whether i would like to replace DB_DCW221_ECE_ECE_V11.003 with Version 8 ?

That's where I thought I would double-check the DB_DCW221_ECE_ECE_V11.003 version code on the forum since it may be that I have a later version than 8 already installed?

Clearly I would not want to downgrade by mistake - I wish they would make these updates a little more user friendly to understand!

Thx

I should have had a V8 DVD but didn't find it for the moment. Would you read your config.nfm files from your V8 DVD. I found a V4 DVD and this reads from the above file as "DB_DCW221_ECE_ECE_V11.022".

Which model year is the car? Odd if your current version is more recent than V4 judged from the numbers but then again, V4 is quite old.

Seems I cannot add info to my previous message. I found the V8 DVD, the file info reads as DV_DCW221_ECE_ECE_V11.042. Sounds to me like the V11:003 is some factory version that the V8 DVD does not even recognise or at least sounds like it would be even older than the V4 DVD.

OK ... so now that I know I should look at the config.nfm file, it says:

DB_DCW221_ECE_ECE_V11.042
Europe Version 8.0

That seems to confirm it is EUROPE Version 8.0 (which I assume contains full UK coverage as well?)

So - obvious question is that is version 11.003 one of Version 3,4,5,6,7 then? Thx

Sorry I should also add that I do have Birds Eye 3D view enabled on my Comand despite it showing as having 11.003. If 11.003 is really a very early (maybe 2006?) version then was Bird's Eye view something that would have been updated as part of the Comand firmware update by a dealer and not as part of a Navigation DVD update since I know these are 2 separate things?

Many thanks (and hope others will find this post useful if they are also trying to update their vehicles) ...

Bird's eye view comes from the Telematics update. It allows bird's eye view without any update to the map data.

NTG3: New S/CL-Class (W221/W216) (Europe)
Version 3.0
Version 2007
Version 2007/2008
Version 2008/2009
Version 2009
Version 2009/2010

I would say you have version 3 maps installed so it has not been ever been updated. Your telematics has. Also AFAIK Comand doesnt let you downgrade so if you had a older version DVD it wouldnt give you the option to upgrade.

Hi there. Well thanks so much for clearing up the issues over the Navigation DVD and which version I have.

Only question now remaining is whether or not I need a Telematics update for the Comand and if so, is there any easy way of getting hold of the latest version / updated DVD?

Thanks.

Didn't you already have bird's eye view? You would not gain much from a later update. And other than the map data cannot be updated from a service CD like on some other models.

Did you already install the V8 (it isn't the latest)?

Hi there - yes Version 8 installed pretty well OK except for one glitch.

When I did the install, the Comand powered itself off almost just before the update completed. I had the ignition turned off and the car stationary.

When I put the DVD back in again (having turned the engine back on although still stationary), it thankfully resumed the update from where it last had left it and progressed to a successful completion. If you then reinsert the DVD, it asks you whether you want to do an update again despite having the current version of the DVD update on the hard-drive. So in essence, all fairly easy ways of ensuring the update has happened correctly.

I would urge anyone doing this type of update to reinsert their DVD since in the last step since it was not entirely clear if the update had gone through initially. Look out for the "UPDATE SUCCESSFUL - EJECTING DVD" message and if you don't see it then it's unlikely it's gone all the way through and you may still have the old version of the navigation software. Thx and good luck!

By the way - yes, I do have Bird's eye view thankfully and so far the navigation has worked great today while driving around!
