Help! Should my next SL be a 600 Bi Turbo?

Great news Robert, the car looks superb...really pleased for you, oh and Black truly is the best colour:thumb:, not that I am biased:D

Orange / yellow calipers I agree with...personally I prefer yellow but that's my personal choice...

IMHO don't get Starguard, waste of money... as mentioned find a good detailer, there is a detailing section on here so you ask for local recommendations etc...I use this guy, Cheshire based but will travel UK wide, he is very good, sponsor on detailingworld, generally he specializes in Ferrari and Porsche but has done a very good job on all my MB's...he also does swirl removal (paint correction)

When your ready contact someone like Paul Sav at Eurocharged, their are subtle tweaks you can do on the exhaust system, and EC map which will give you an even bigger smile when you hit the 'loud' pedal..

Pleasing to see the forum had an input with your buy....good when this happens...look forward to more pics and updates!

Wow, that was quick lol

Congrats, lovely car. What are you doing with the Alpine unit in your old 350 - moving it over to 63 or selling with the car?
Thanks. It was a case of knowing what I wanted, and happening upon it, so I grabbed it before anyone else could!

I think the Alpine W928R head unit may be sold if it’s superfluous to needs, along with several other items of the £3,500 ICE (all recommended & installed by our friends at Comand Online).

The new car has Harman Kardon which I'm yet to listen to properly because the vehicle's iPod connection was missing

I ended up listening to the systems radio

Anyway, if you are interested in the Alpine let me know and I'll give you 'first dibs'. Given no thought to the £ yet, but I'm dead sensible about such things.

Cheers,
Robert

The only thing I would do IMO of course is colour code the silver 6.3 badges on the front wings, they really look like an after thought and cheap looking.

That's a helpful comment :-)

Could you explain what you mean in more detail?

Would you go 'black to match', or just change the silver to another shade?

Thanks,
Robert

Lovely car, enjoy it..... oh and yellow calipers FTW :D

Yellow callipers look fantastic! But I'm leaning towards keeping the wheels as alloy colour with the original diamond cut.

There is something about silver/d-cut wheels that provide some visual 'light relief' to an otherwise black car that I'm keen to preserve.

Besides, if I went with black wheels, then it would have to be with the metallic orange callipers I posted a pic of earlier!!

Cheers,
Robert

Yeah I get that, tbh that is why I did my calipers yellow to give the car some 'visual reference' with all the black.

Whatever you decide the car will be a looker for sure :thumb:

Thanks for the offer but the unit will be too big for CL to fit without major alterations. I was planning to upgrade the sound system (no highs, no lows, must be Bose) and even bought a double DIN fascia/bezel but being unsure on the looks decided to put this mod on hold for the time being. Personally I like Harman Kardon but maybe because I didn't hear anything better. Good luck with the car and mods!

I had a quick look at your profile to look at car colours, etc, before asking this: Did you have black wheels in mind when you thought of yellow callipers? I ask because I'm leaning towards keeping the original silver/D-cut wheels as standard.

Wilco. I thought it was a waste of £499 :thumb:
Besides, I spend a reasonable amount on detailing products as I'm a bit OCD (or "CDO" as it should be in alphabetical order ;) ) about cleaning my Merc and avoiding swirl marks, etc.

Eurocharged Performance and Tuning- Exotic and European Tuning Specialists
Thanks.
However, from the reading I've done I've got the sense that there is not much you can do with a normally aspirated engine unless you start changing entire manifold-to-tailpipe exhausts, or changing cams, etc.

Besides, the car has the 'Performance Pack' with its remapped ECU (all 8 bhp of it!!) Thoughts?

I'll speak to Eurocharged anyway, so thanks :-)

I'm REALLY grateful for everyone's interest and the mountain of useful advice that has been freely given.

When one is so personally immersed in the finding & buying of a new car, it can be difficult to 'see the woods for the trees', so independent and objective advice and opinions are essential, to be honest :)

Black to match. Just cheap plastic, they stick out like a saw thumb :ban:

I would stick with the original wheels and callipers :thumb:

As mentioned by everyone else go down the detailing road. Once again congratulations.

My choice would be be to keep the original wheel colour....which you have indicated is your preference as well.

After attending a few EC tuning events, I seem to remember the guys with the NA 63's getting improvements of 40/50 HP and increased torque with a EC remap only, maybe a bit more for those who had the Jerry 'dyno' tune...I am sure others will be along to confirm this:thumb:

So you bought it.

Did you get what I suggested?

Yes! (Did you get my telephone machine message thanking you?)

I make a quiet fuss about it, said I thought the deal was 'done and dusted', but now THIS crops up, picked up my wallet (with my Debit Card sitting on top) and made as if to leave.

Then I said to the sales manager "You tax the vehicle and we're still On"! He agreed immediately.

So £500 gained with one demand, after they had said they were totally maxed-out at their price, unable to budge :bannana:

So, I'll be the 6th owner, not the second as I was initially led to believe. It's not great, but in mitigation the car was a) a demo vehicle, and b) "owned" by MB Finance UK, so actually I'm the 4th 'person' to own it, if you see what I mean?

I intend to keep it for 2-3 years so that should help even things out a bit.

Anyway, thanks for the advice; I was on my tod in the showroom surrounded by 3 salesmen and I needed some 'backup', hence I called you!! Thanks :thumb:

I should get the car within the next 2 weeks. There's a personalised plate to swap and some wheels to refurb, but I'd like you to look at it straight after I collect it from MB Basingstoke.

I'm thinking: change all the fluids: g/box, brakes, coolant, etc. It's just had an A service apparently, but I would be grateful if you could give it a 'good going over' and then a through test drive to make sure all is well :-)

I'll call and book it in with you when I have a firmer date for collection.

Thanks again Olly, you're a star :thumb:

Cheers,
Robert

Thanks for that :-)

Although metallic orange is still 'calling my name', for some reason, I will probably end up doing them in metallic 'stove' black, like I have on my current black SL.

I think with white stickers (AMG ones) they will look good and not 'flash'?

You won't go wrong with PCS:thumb:

I'm sure Olly will give it a thorough check over to put your mind at rest...

Lovely machine Robert

Glad your also using Olly at pcs, thoroughly recommend them.

Would also recommend ed at divinedetail he has detailed alot of sl's including afew on here.

Enjoy it Robert.

Well done Robert! I'm glad the info I posted was of use to you. It looks a smashing car and I especially like the twin spoke alloys as they are. My personal choice would be red calipers:doh:.
Hope the car is everything you hope for!

I have to say that I have been avoiding red callipers as a matter of principle, but I also admit that they DO go really well with silver wheels and a black car!

It's just that every teenager and his Ford Fiesta/Clio/Astra paints his callipers red.

On the other hand several 'supercars' have red callipers, so I'm undecided on red, basically :wallbash:

Lovely car - well done:thumb:

And as James has said Olly at PCS and Ed at Divine Detail can't be recommended highly enough, both excellent.

As for calipers, for me on a black car bronze looks great and a little more subtle than orange, yellow or red.

Olly highly recommended.

Just come back from Olly's with the CL. After the French trip noticed a little oil on the garage floor + the soft close on the n/s had stopped working. Oil leak okay soft close fixed.
