Hell i am in trouble
I got a e class as a gift from my wife that she bought in spain recently
we live in west africa
i am happy with the car (even if the user manual is written in German) however this evening i went out and upon leaving the car i pressed the locking button on the key fob and walked away seeing that the lights flashed their usual 3 times however for some reason my finger stayed on the button and the lights flashed 6 timesmore when i returned to my car i unlocked and the lights flashed once but when i inserted the fob into the ignition total silence nothing and i cannot start my car
at the moment my car is about 60 kilometres away from home i have had to pay someone to look after it for me so i could take a taxi and return home with my baby boy
please is there anything anyone cansuggest i am so desperate i have looked through the forum and the referrences i see all make comments about red and green lights mine does not have them it has 3 buttons 1 for locking 1 for unlocking (padlocks) and 1 for opening the trunk
HELP ME PLEASE

Could just be a battery issue for the key. Opening the key to insert the battery is only easy when someone shows you.

Andy,

Any reference to red and green lights will refer to the lights at the bottom of the rear view mirror that flash when the car is locked/unlocked. They are indicator lights for the immobiliser system.

I am certain that the problem you have is due to a failing battery in the key fob, as Miro suggests. I, like a number of others on this forum, have suffered the same problem and it has been sorted with a new battery.

Best of luck and let us know how you get one. There are plenty on here who will freely offer excellent advice and make helpful suggestions.

PS Welcome to the forum :bannana:

You didn't say what year your car is?

You can lock the car as often as you like, 3/6/9 flashes, it shouldn't make any difference to the opening or starting.

When you put the key in it is electronically recognised. If the battery in the key is low this might not take place, however occassionally the electronics fail to recognise the key even if OK. The answer to this is to remove the key and replace it again until you hear it clicking and able to turn.

Good Luck and let us know how you get on please. :)

As written already, I had a key that "failed" used the spare. In the end I had to buy a new key :( loadsa :( dough

I realise I am digging up a relic of a thread, and I also realise that the user is probably not here anymore... but here goes nothing....
Nangadef!
(I lived in Gambia for 12 years, and judging from your name/location... :D)
If you still are having trouble with your car, pop by the Portughese Consulate, the secretaries name is Tombo, ask him to see the consul. My father is a die-hard fan of merc's and will either sort something for you or get our mecchanic to sort something for you.

Roughly translated = I've acquired a Merc that was stolen in Spain and the immobilizer has kicked in. How do I get round it?

I also want to deposit £500000 in your bank account, please send me your account number....

my thoughts exactly . . . funny he hasn't responded to the thread . . .

Well obvious answer is have the car towed home
Then take to dealer assuming the car is legit and have the fault diagnosed!

LOL, you obviously have never been to Gambia :D Gambia population is rtoughly 1million people (yes, the whole country), barely exists on mosts maps and has no car dealers other than one Mitsubishi dealer. The nearest merc dealer I believe is in Dakar, Senegal (nehiboring country). Thats why I offered the services of our mechanic, he takes care of all our cars in Gambia, most of them being MB's.
