I have a 99 C220 CDI. Never use any diesel treatment before and thought i will give it go. I poured some Redex Diesel Treatment into the fuel tank yesterday as it says at the back of the bottle. Driving today, find that the car is running abit smoother:). But, seems to be im losing fuel:eek:! The fuel gauge shown a quarter of the tank is used:eek:. But, i only done at around 20miles or so! Does anyone know what seems to be the problem? Is the injectors damaged?? Pics and advice would be appreciate!!!!! Thank you!!!!!

The fuel gauges are not known to be very accurate on W202's. Using the treatment could in no way be causing the car to use more fuel or as much fuel as your gauge is showing. Don't rely on the gauge and fill your car up and work out how fuel the car is using the proper way....

There is no way that using Redex Diesel Treatment (or any other diesel treatment) can cause a sudden increase in consumption.
Start with a full tank and zero your trip mileage
Run it down to nearly empty.
Fill up the tank again and note the mileage.
From this you can calculate the true consumption in miles per litre.

By cleaning the injectors and improving the spray pattern, I would expect to see a slight improvement (if anything)

could it of caused the fuel sender to become innacurate, by blockage or something that the redex has caused by "cleaning" the tank? similar in the way veg oil cleans the tanks? just an idea and probably wrong :thumb:

I made the same mistake in my G-Wagen.
Didn't affect the consumption, and ran a treat afterwards.

I doubt it, SS. If the treatment dissolved some residue in the tank, i.e. cleaned it from the tank's inner surfaces, then it will remain in solution indefinitely and pass through the fuel system as advertised. It can't dissolve it one minute and then decide to un-dissolve it and deposit it somewhere else.

when I used STP cleaner in my 210 E230, petrol consumption on the first tank shot up by about 25% ..

then it improved a little (pre STP cleaner), but the engine became much smoother, and a bit more powerful

Hi, thanks to eveyone for the advice. I took my car to my local garage and had it checked out. There is no sign of leakage from anywhere. So, that's a good start i guess!! I will fill the tank up later and see it from there!!!
