hi,

does anyone know what the tool is called and where i could source one from to remove the steering wheel so that I can realighn it, its about 30d out to the left.

cheers paul

Hi Paul,

When i changed my stering wheel , i undid the nut under the cover and with plenty of pulling / wiggling and a few helping thumps from a rubber mallet from behind (swinging it in the footwell) it came off fine .....

I didn't know there was a special tool .... :o

When you re-mount it , make sure the wheels are absolutely straight before you put it on , as even one spline out makes a long journey intensely annoying as the wheel just doesn't sit straight ( believe me , i know  ) ...

Good luck

It's unlikely the wheel wants moving unless it's been off before. Much more likely is that the tracking has been set up incorrectly.

Before moving the wheel turn lock to lock and count the turns either way, it should be equal.

If it's an airbag wheel you need a torx security driver to remove the airbag - there are 4 bolts accessible from behind the wheel. When the airbag is off you can loosen the nut that holds the wheel to the column

But you'll probably find that the track rod ends are adjusted wrong and the wheel is right. To get it right, find the centre of the steering box by counting turns, centre the box then align the wheel. Adjust the tracking straight by adjusting the track rod ends

Thanks for your advise managed to do it, it was the model without an airbag

by the way, does any one have any tips on the models with airbags as ive never succesfully managed to take them off... My torx are too thick to go down the hole and my long thin set are too long to get in behind the steering wheel... any tips?!

This is the type I use Its a T30 75mm long with a 1/4inch shaft.

When taking off the air bag make sure that you disconnect the battery then disconnect the red plug under the metal cover in the passengers foot well. Air bags don't come cheap should the fire off.

Buy a cheap one and cut it down, either that or take out the cluster and just use a torx screwdriver.

hmm ill try that next time!
