w208 has 3 catches, the side catch on the driver side will not close.

the bonnet started flapping on the A3 and i pulled onto the hard shoulder but it wouldnt close. I think i manged to close/open the latch with my hands, but it still won't close.

the catch is heavily greased. should i clean off the old grease and apply white lithium grease? or does it need adjusting?

thanks.

Is the handle under the dash properly 'home' ...

Can you get it to close by dropping the bonnet instead of gently placing it down and then pushing it home ?

thanks guys.

i'll try dropping it from a small height.

on the hard shoulder i was using major force/bodyweight and it wouldnt close.

quite sure the handle was fully closed.

in exceptionally simple terms..how do you do that?

thanks

I've never done it myself. But I imagine there are two bolts holding the striker plate in place. I'd loosen them, then slide the plate until the bonnet closed properly.

thanks Will, i'll have a closer look and let you know.

if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.

WD40 fixed the problem...

:thumb:

was just excessively grimey/greased
