Can any help or advise?? CLK 230K 2000 convertable. fuse for the soft top keeps blowing (40Amp) when switch is flipped. Windows drop then nothing:confused: I have been to car electric specialist who has suggested the hydralic unit has died. Replacement from MB £1,944. plus vat plus fitting. The air turned blue with words of wisdom. any suggestions?

While i know nothing at all about your car, there must presumably be an electric motor involved, check its earth cable. Hope thats a help. john

Has it just started blowing the fuse ?

Anything jammed the roof ?

Have you just bought the car ? any history with it ?

If you have owned it for a while , do you cycle the roof over the winter every week or so ?

the roof was cycled during the winter ( any excuse and it was down) the fuse blew end of april, changed it no problem. i can operate the roof manually so it doesn't appear jammed. I'm going to cycle the roof again tomrrow (manually) to check again and then retry using the electrics. After which i intend to try and strip down the components of the roof operating system to find out whats gone. Any tips would be advantagous esspecally those that say don't do this...?

Well , the hydraulic pump is hidden behind a panel in the back of the boot that is held on by about a million screws. You will have a bad back after removing it , but for two grand plus vat it's worth a look. If the hood works ok manually , it probably is the pump. Could try a breakers for one ?

Worth seeing if the pump has leaked all its oil out i guess .

BBA-Reman offer a CLK Roof Motor rebuilding service if it is toast.

Mercedes CLK Roof Pump

thanks Howard ive ben to bba reman and they have quoted 295 + vat and carrage so even at that price its worth having alook :dk:. ive seen the how to top up the fluid so that will get me to the pump. no sign of leaking fluid any where so i dont think it the hydrulic side. if the bushes have gone on the pump motor that would explain the fuse popping every time or hopefully there is a relay thats gone awol which is my first port of call as this will be the easiest and cheapest thing to replace. heres hopeing.
