Help : W211 Klimatronic Command PAnel

Hi !
I have a MB E220 CDI (W211) and I want to change my control (manual) by a Digital One (just the one inside the car panel) - The reference that was given to me was A211 830 0685. Can you tell me if I can replace only that part and it will be OK or do I need some additional parts to be replaced ? Thanks.

Hello,

I have no experience of the exact car that you have but I've researced others, (R171), that come with the option of luxury climate control. The unit that fits into the facia 'should' be a straight swap both physically and electrically. All the push on connectors are the same, it would appear.

In the R171 specifically, when this mod is carried out out, the system works ok but it works in just the same way as it did before. You dont get the added features of sun angle detection, and therfore the anticipation of solar gain; you dont get the activated charcoal filter, and there is something else which at the moment is evading my memory .

To ebable the use of a fully featured set up would require the sun sensor which, I believe, is built into the windscreen so you would require a new screen. I dont know where the filter lives but you would also need that.

Those that have simply swapped the control unit have reported that it works fine for them and looks a whole lot neater also .

The visual change is not trivial at all. The updated look requires motors and filters which your car doesnt have. It may operate but then you will not know if diagnostic errors are real or caused by the mismatch.

Look at it this way .... do you think that Mercedes charges X-dollars for a small panel difference.
