What is it with all these threads about wipers at the mo?

Anyhow, this is serious <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/hmmm.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':hmmm:'>

Having gone up the M1 in heavy rain today, which justified full speed wipers, I now have a problem.

In any mode of operation, when my wiper moves it makes a loud noise. It sounds like the motor is straining and a bit like a food blender!!

When I reached my destination in Yorkshire, in an attempt to stop iminent failure (it sounds bad! ) I used spray on grease on the exposed mechanical bits. Did not help, but made me feel better.

The wiper still actually works but makes me cringe.

So does anyone have experience of this or know how to fix?

Is there anything i can take apart to look at or oil?

Looking on the dark side, how much is a new wiper motor?

Think they are at least £200 or so new... &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I dont really know about fixing them, however they can be taken apart if needed, and are not sealed.

Prefer not to advertise really but if you need [email protected]

OK. The awfull sound experienced at the weekend has gone.
I can understand it crying out as I did drive hard in harsh conditions! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/omg.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':eek:mg:'>

I am not 100% convinced all is OK, but I am so tuned to any noise now (paranoid) that it is hard to tell. I will only know if I bug another merc owner to have a listen to theirs &nbsp; <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Anyhow, I would like to pass on a tip for future reference.

The section of the wiper, below the hinge (where you can flip the wiper up) is actually a plastic cover, which can be prised off.
If you do this with the wiper stopped in the extended position, this exposes the metal rod, which extends in and out. Apparently (thanks due to Steve aka MBenzNL) this can do with lubrication checks from time to time.
