Hi Guys,

need some help as new to here. I am looking for a comand unit for my 58Reg CLC. But i have been told conflicting details by some websites and Mercedes themselves. Marcedes have told me my car is "I think its a w204" which i thought was weird as they should know. But on many websites the CLC is a W203?

Then i currently have the audio 20 with BT capable for my iphone. Would you guys recommend the best places to get a second hand comand unit in the London/Essex area?

Any help is much appreciated guys

cheers

Alfie and Richard are the forum COMAND specialists, they should be able to help you.

Have a look in the 'traders offers to members' forum.

Your 58 CLC is almost definitely W203, and the COMAND unit for it is COMAND NTG2.5.

EDIT: as sweetpea and npuk said....

..If so you need Comand NTG2.5, must be a W203 / CLC unit. You can get them on ebay or from www.comandonline.co.uk if you want a new one.

I got a brand new NTG2.5 unit supplied and installed by Alfie and Richard from commandonline.co.uk (they are based in Lightwater), the equipment and installation are both top notch and these guys are experts - highly recommended :thumb:

I assume your current unit looks like this: Audio-20-ntg-2-5-in-w203-mopf : Umbau audio 20 auf audio 20 ntg 2.5 : Mercedes C-Klasse W203 : #203176881

If so you need Comand NTG2.5, must be a W203 / CLC unit. You can get them on ebay or from www.comandonline.co.uk if you want a new one.
npuk my audio 20 is exactly that.

and i see this comand unit on ebay didnt know if it would work as i have read that i need one from a CLC and this is not from what i can gather!

Mercedes navigation Comand APS W203 203C class NTG GPS | eBay

No that is the older Comand NTG2, you need Comand NTG2.5.

The CLC / W203 units dont come up for sale as often as they used too so prices on ebay have increased. Worth checking ebay germany too as you can sometimes pick them up cheaper there.

Comand NTG2.5 CLC - Mercedes Benz CLC 203 or 463 NTG 2.5 HDD DVD player | eBay This unit has a built in 6 cd / dvd changer so costs more. Keep an eye out for one with single cd / dvd as it will be cheaper.

cheers npuk,

will look at comand online and see what toys i can add to my first Mercedes.

A little off subject but would you guys have ever herd of the dipped headlights on the W203 being very dimm? I have noticed of late that these are no better if not worst than on my brother Fiat Panda 100HP which was a little disturbing.

Assuming you do not have the Bi-Xenon option, go for (four) brighter H7 bulbs e.g. Osram NightBreaker Plus, or the equivalent Philips bulb.

This is correct is dont have the Bi-Xenon ones so looks like I will be in my local halfords to purchase these in the morning and hope to see improvement. Cheers guys all have been a major help and fast response's.

so glad i joined and will know exactly where to come for and help or problems i may run into.

CLC is W203, not W204 (in spite of the fact that the front and rear end were re-styled to look like W204).

Early CLCs from 06/08 to 09/08 were equipped with the older COMAND NTG2.0.

Later CLCs from 09/08 were equipped with the latest COMAND NTG2.5.

Among other things, COMAND NTG2.5 has build-in Hard Disk Drive, and the maps are copied from the DVD to the Hard Drive, so no need to keep the maps DVD or CD in the drive. It has built-in Bluetooth, and most importantly an SD card slot that you can use either directly to play mp3 files, or to copy mp3 files from the SD card to the 4gb Music Store area on the Hard Disk Drive.

Some NTG2.5 models have a single DVD slot, other have a built-in CD changer. The latter can be difficult to find, and to be honest with the Music Store and SD slot it is probably not that important.

There is a long list of options for COMAND NTG2.5...:

iPod connector (allows controlling the iPod from the COMAND unit)
Linguatronic (voice-activated)
TV Tuner - either Analogue or Digital
DAB radio
Rear-view camera (activated when selecting Reverse gear)
Convenience Telephony (unlike the built-in Bluetooth, Convenience Telephony charges the handset and also allow use of the external GSM aerial for better reception)

So... if you do get a second hand unit, make sure that it is NTG2.5 from a late (09/08 onwards) CLC. Don't be tempted to buy NTG2.5 from other MB cars - they look similar but may not (physically) fit in your CLC.

But your best bet is to just get everything from comandonline.co.uk - I did...

And... if you ask them nicely they just *might* activate some of the hidden features on the instrument cluster...

Osram NightBreaker Plus P/N 64210NBP, e.g.:

Philips Extreme P/N 12972-XPS2, e.g.:

Philips 12972-XPS2 H7 Extreme Power Kit (2 x Bulbs): Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

And you'll need four H7 bulbs - might as well change both the dipped beam and main beam... the parking lights are optional.

Marmite... :D

Both come top in product tests in car magazines, though I think that Philips Extreme come-out marginally better on bulb performance (brightness / distance).

The usual issue with bright bulbs is that they have shorter life compared to standard (dimmer) bulbs.... Osram's NightBreaker Plus replaced the old NightBreaker this year, and Osram claim that the Plus has 'up to 50% longer life'.

So if Osram are to be believed, than I guess this would be good reason to choose Osram over Philips.

But I am not aware that any car magazine actually tested the longevity of these bulbs.

Hope this helps....

I can confirm i went for 4x Osram Nightbreaker Plus H7's :bannana:

i have installed these and even in the day the look so much brighter than my standard bulbs.

thanks for all your advise.
