Scientists(?) have to enter an underground research laboratory to investigate a virus(?) escape. They descend various levels and on each level they undergo 'decontamination', at one level having their outer layers of skin burnt off.

I cannot recall any actors' names

That's the one. It's an alien virus if I remember correctly.

They did a remake but never watched it. Can't think of many remakes that manage to improve on the original. Cape Fear was one though, IMHO.
