Hi guys, been reading the forum for a while so thought I'd join and learn more about my car. Recently purchased a C200 Kompressor 54 plate.

The car's not been the most reliable since I've bought it to be honest, only bought it a week ago and the starting motor died out already which I had replaced (at a cost of £700!). Now I face newer problems, if the car reaches 60-80mph a warning comes up on the dashboard which says "battery alternator, visit workshop" Baring in mind I had my car serviced 3 days ago, and they said nothing about the alternator.. The check engine light still remains on but Mercedes were sure that it was something to do with the airflow? Since getting it back from mercedes, I also randomly get warnings that say "light sensor fault, take to dealership".

It's seeming like I've been sold a dud each passing day that goes by, the guy only done the mot on the car 2 months ago and it "flew by" according to the receipt.
:dk:

Any help?

Do we take it that you didn't buy from a dealer?

Where are you (for a grage recommendation)?

And who serviced it - if only 3 days ago you could 'ask' them about recent failures on their watch

Get it to a decent garage with a Star. This are fairly easy fault to sort with the correct diag equipment.

Thanks for the replies. Forgot to mention that I'm located in North London and the car's Petrol if that helps. Also, has anyone come across this error, my cd/radio cuts out, it says ESR (or something similar) not available, refer to user manual, then after a second the cd comes back.

I got it serviced at Colindale Mercedes. I'll take a scan of the service sheet in the morning, they said on the phone that there's only a few niggles wrong with the car but then quoted me 1.3k to fix it.

I paid £5.4k for the car and it's got 75k miles on the clock if that helps.

Sorry about the delay guys, work has been keeping me very occupied, here is the service receipt.

If people could recommend me some garages in North London, that would be grand.

A few niggles? Jesus, that's more than a few niggles! If you can get to Fulham Steve at Klasse of fulham is a good guy - they really know their stuff and he'll be a lot cheaper than a dealer's 100 quid plus labour rates.

Good luck!

It's all minor stuff though with the exception of the engine light....but that could be nothing too.

I wonder what the aircon leak under the vehicle is?? I thought all aircon leaked under the vehicle!

I just don't trust dealers one bit!

Thanks for the replies boys, I'll see if I can take it to Klasse asap. The engine light comes and goes, apparently something to do with an airflow sensor?

Fantastic. Broke down again. Was on the motorway, then "low voltage" appeared on the COMMAND, pulled over now waiting for breakdown to take me home.

I had it serviced @ Mercedes and they didn't say nothing about the battery/alternator ffs!!

Oh dear. Sounds like you need to get it sorted out pronto - nothing worse than an unreliable motor!

Alternator's died out. :(

Mercedes didnt say nothing about it when I got it serviced! Is there anything I can do about this? How much will it cost to get it replaced?

you might be able to get it refurbed, I had mine done for about £50 a few years ago IIRC have look in your yellow pages!

Gonna take it to mercedes tomorrow, is there anything I can do about them not saying nothing about the alternator during the servicing?

To be honest when they go, they go... I doubt Mercedes could reasonably have picked it up unless maybe they were specifically looking for it..

I want to know who charged you £700 for a starter motor on your car! Its only an hour or so work

Mercedes Benz - Colindale.

Mate, I'm thinking of bringing it to you, but I'm not sure if the alternator will last the journey, how much will you quote me to sort the alternator out and fix the engine light?

Cheers.

stop wasting time with merc! they charge the earth so they can be surly and incompetant in my experience!
Go to a good well recommend specialist. will save you 100's and they will actually sort it all out.

Why on earth did you buy the car. sounds like a real dud. Always look to see how well looked after the car is. if all the fluids are low like that report states its pretty obvious the previous owner was a woman who dont know which way up a dipstick goes or a bloke who didnt give a monkeys! Instant indicator as to how well looked after a car is!

Alternator will just go bang. Once the brushes get too short its game over. You were a bit silly still driving it when this warning had already presented itself.

Just re read that..... hope it dont sound like im having a dig. :)
