It's As Been Like This For About Amonth..
(It's Just Had A Servise,And Been On Diagnostic (Did Not Find A problem)

Can Any Body HELP!

SON

Has it been serviced lately ?

Check the basics - condition of spark plugs , distributor cap , rotor . Fuel delivery .

Sometimes vacuum leaks can cause problems on these cars - lots of little vacuum pipes which sometimes crack or come adrift .

Difficult to be more specific .

Good luck . The W201's are VERY good cars .

When does it cut out? Is it when the engine is cold? Has the car been running for some time/miles before this happens. When the car does cut out and you wait for 30 seconds does it then start and run as normal for miles afterwards or does it keep cutting out?

I had a VW Golf that use to cut out for no reason and i had to wait a while before it would restart....took ages to work out it was rust from the petrol filler neck was being sucked up to the pump filter in the tank over a journey, blocking it and starving it of fuel so it cut out.... Waited a while for it to settle again and it would be fine....may not be your problem but an idea.

Cut Out When It's Hot Or Cold. And At Any Time!

When the car cuts out do all the warning lights come on or is it dead electrically? have you had the OVP and fuel pump relays checked?

Try replacing all the fuses in the fusebox - the continental fuses as used in the 190 corrode at the ends where they make contact with the metal tabs in the fusebox , this forms a high resistance joint which heats up when current tries to pass through , this is a vicious circle with the heat causing more resistance . When you switch off and allow things to cool again it may start working for a while .

Similarly , solder joints on the circuit boards inside some of your relays and modules can cause similar problems - suspect the fuel pump relay and the over voltage protection relay , both located behind the battery on the 190 : the FPR usually has the word 'kickdown' written on it and the OVP relay is the tall thin one with a fuse on top . If you are , or know someone , who is competent at soldering these units can be opened up and resoldered easily , at no cost ! Otherwise try to find a substitute with the same part no in a breaker as they are expensive new ( or borrow one to try if you know someone with a similar car - W124 models use a lot of the same parts )

Good luck !

I've had this problem on a couple of 190Es, 2.6 & a 2.5-16. The car would cut out occasionally for no apparent reason while I was driving along. It would start again after about a 20-30 second wait.

It sounds very much like you are having the same problem.

It's to do with the dry solder joints on the fuel pump relay cracking after 15+ years of vibration. You can either remove the cover & get it re-soldered, buy a new one or get a second hand one.

I've got FPRs for most 190Es if you want to go down the used route.
