My Computer installed some updates last night and restarted itself. Normally when this happens it saves any currently open Excel documents and askes which to open ie auto recover.
It doesnt seem to have done this, or it might have but I cant see the recovered file.
Where would I find this?
Please please help other wise I will lock the office and go and vent my frustration on something:wallbash:

Oh dear. I've been caught out my the 'auto install updates' before. It's a real error by Microsft having that as the recommended option. I now use 'auto download but choose when to install'.

Maybe this link can help.

It is a brave man who relies on autosave and autorecover! Always save docs before leaving your desk!

Were these new and unsaved documents?

The recovery documents are typically called something like ~xyz123.tmp and kept in C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

There is usually just the one temp file for each open file, if it's not found them to recover then there's a good chance they don't exist.

Thanks for all the help and those links, found a couple of .xar files from yesterday afternoon and thankfully they were the ones!
What a great forum!
