Well, i really dunno what car i want... got it narrowed down to two (one really), a CLK320, just don't know whether to go for the coupe version, or the convertible version..

Any opinions are welcomed..

Coupe .

For .....

Faster
Less to go wrong
Better ride
Cheaper

Against .....

Loads of them around

Cabrio

For .....

Cool Factor
Wind in your hair motoring
Cheaper than normal in wintertime

Against ....

Scuttle shake
Expensive bits to go wrong ( hood pumps etc )
Hood could get slashed
Slower than the coupe ( 1 sec to 60 )

Don't get me wrong , the cabs are nice , i loved my one for the short time i had it. There's a lot out there so pick and choose , get your options list right , don't buy the first one you see.

If you buy a cabrio , make sure the hood works because the pump is big big money. How much have you got to spend ?

got roughly £5k + my 306 hdi, worth between £800 & £1000

There's a few on Pistonheads at the moment ....

Any reason you've decided on the 320 and not considered the 430 V8 ?

Best move i made was buying a V8 ....

Now , i'm not saying it's a nice car , because i don't know anything about it , and it certainly hasn't got every option ticked , but prices have come right down on the V8's ... you should have a test drive before you commit to a 320.

Insurance isn't that much more either....

the difference in V8 and V6 comes down to the points you have on your license, get the V8 if you have an empty license, the noise and kick in the back is addictive and will cause some attention from Mr Plod, I got the smooth V6 as I thought points meant prizes so filled my license up, the V6 is very smooth and puts you in a cruising state of mind rather than a hooligan frame of mind,

I've owned numerous V8s and cars with 400bhp and still no points on my license .

Sods Law dictates I'll get some now .

Im a believer that if its there use it, otherwise its in-efficient to have it, that doesnt mean I am going to get a scooter though

I love the V8 , especially now with the 55 exhaust on ....

Does bring out the hooligan / barry in me though .... find myslef pressing the loud pedal at times that it doesn't need to be pressed ....

Seems people are used to seeing the number '2' before the '30' and aren't ready for what happens ;)

If your single (no kids in the back)

then convertible all the way, look superb roof down.

Doesn't matter regarding being a tiny bit slower you will look so much cooler in summer :) I tended to find with convertible cars you actually drive them slower anyway roof down.

As mentioned though check the roof where it folds for signs of damage and the electrics.

Convertible for me easy. Drive a hard bargain this time of year and a deal will be out there.

Just seen your budget, not too many around on sensible miles at that price, FAR more coupes. Search hard and enjoy.

Why no kids in the back ?

I've seen a number of people with little ones in the back with convertibles.

There ok in the front heating on, bum warmers on and with the best will in the world in the back of a convertible YOU do get the wind wrapping round its not nice.

The kids I've seen in the back of these look miserable. Great if pottering round town but at any normal speeds not great.

My view.

OOh and if you do go for a convertible get one with heated seats, amazes me people who spec up a £35K car and miss out on a £300 option. Great in Winter or colder nights :)

Agree, Kids in the back will only put up with 20-30mins or so with the roof down

Love the car though.

Cabriolet! There are some on ebay for under £4k right now, I am sorely tempted, quick, anyone want to buy a Z3? 2 seats can be impractical! :D
