I bought a (genuine MB) used HFP Bluetooth unit on E-bay and plugged it into the shoe connector in the armrest of my 2006 C55.
It synched immediately with mu iPhone SE and all of my contacts appear on the dash display and I can make calls no problem with crystal clear sound coming out of the passenger door speaker.

BUT...everyone I call either on a land line or mobile phone experiences such bad echo (of their own voice not mine) that it is almost impossible to have a conversation with me...some say that's a good thing :p !

What is going on ? any ideas anyone ?

I know you say its a 2006 car, but the pre-facelift cars had this problem (incompatability with HFP adapter). If you look at the stereo, does the wood/metal of the dashboard stop below it, or does it go up the sides of the stereo to the switches above.

Cheers

On a different car and setup but still BTooth I cured this by adjusting the volume.

If this is the C55 then its the volume inside the car. Simply turn the volume down during a call.

According to the build VeDoc Its a 'Audio 20 CD radio' it has a CDC multichanger and Harman Kandon Logic 7 Surround System

Do you have the in-car volume quite high?
I have tried it so low I can hardly hear the caller and the results are the same. Something very wrong here. This adapter cost around £350 new if you get it from MB , and it is , after all, just a Bluetooth receiver, how on earth can it be this bad ??
