Hello,
Firstly I've been lurking around before registering and I'd like to say I am simply overwhelmed by the organisation and structure of this forum and how to find things. Its very impressive, big thanks to everyone already for contributing, hope I can do the same in the future.
Background - I have of lately had a loss in the family and in the mist of this I have inherited a W203 CDi200 '06.
I was driving a Fabia VRs before and intended to keep it till its stopped working, naturally I acquired all the diagnostics tools and knowledge so I could DIY 95% of faults/service/maintenance (Briskoda.net is a great forum).
However, since inheriting the w203 I had to part with the fabia due to financial reasons.. Now I feel I need to start this process again with this car. This car has huge sentimental value to me and others so I'd like to keep it indefinitely (sorry guys and gals, your stuck with me im afraid).
Been looking at maintanence and overhauls which needs to be done in the near future (auto trans oil seem to scream quite loudly), nothing major with the car at current, just been sat around for the year or two not doing much, has about 50k on the clocks.
Problem - Air con was not working on it so since I never dealt with air con issues before I hit google and the forums, unfortunately there wasn't much for me to go by since I had no ground to work from. So I did the naive thing and went for a regas at kwit fit.
Helpful as they were they were not very knowledgeable with air con system except for knowing how to work the clever machine. They drained the system and said there were no gas in there Refilled it without oil just incase there was oil so that they don't want to over oil it. I also assumed that they did a pressure test to see it works before regassing as I was making them walk me through the process. It seemed to work fine for the past few days, but I had no/little air con by the end of the week
Symptoms:
Few days on from regas it had intermittent cold air blowing, (bare with me) it tends to have cooler air when car is at certain inclines or speeds...
Now, the left side is blowing colder than right side, but both aren't really cold if Im honest.
I plan to go back to them and demand a leak check and regas (I've read that proper regas on the MB your supposed to weigh the gas in liquid form and not purely through pressure?). I suspect its a slow leak?
I will have a go at this 'AC diagnostic test (#07)' later today to check on the pressures, going by the symptoms however I feel there isn't much pressure in the system anyway.
I don't have star diagnostics but it maybe useful to obtain it somehow?
As you may have guessed financial situation isn't pretty at the moment so I'm trying to sort it out as much as I can before taking it to the specialists.
Sorry its a barrage of information there! I have been searching for hours on the forums and couldn't get a direction. Hope you guys and gals can help!
Thanks for your patience, hopefully I haven't missed any obvious threads which I should've read!
John
