C250d AMG line Premium Plus Estate S205 2016
Hi.
I've just joined, from Glasgow....
I'm looking at buying a C class Estate at the moment - I'm a BMW fan - with a number 3 series estates to my name... a E46 320d, e91 320d and a F31 335xd , plus a couple of convertibles- e89 3.0 z4 and most recently a 2010 2L MX5, which I've reluctantly had to sell due to a company car policy that mandates <9yrs old and <130g/km CO2.

with a dog, the estate suits our lifestyle best

realistically on my budget (£22k-£23k) so in the second hand market
I'm looking at a couple of 1, 2 $& 3 year old S205 C220d or C250ds at the moment - either pre or post facelift , the options are
  • 170hp 7G 220d (2100cc)
  • 201hp 7G 250d (2100cc) or
  • 197p 9G 220d (1950cc)
I've also seen a few 170hp 9G 220d advertised but don't know if this is a typo?

my leaning at the moment from a power spec and cost perspective is a 2016/17 250d 7G that I have spotted.
is there any compelling reason to pass on the 2.1L 250d 7G and look for a post facelift 2L 220d 9G? they are newer and significantly more expensive. Is the 2L engine significantly better than the 2.1L lump and or the 9G gearbox significantly better than the 7G gearbox?
What would you choose?

thanks in advance
Gerry

Check which suspension options the car comes with can make a big difference to how it drives/handles. With engine technology there are two schools of thought.
1. The newer design is going to be better
2. the older design has had all the kinks ironed out
If the 2.1 diesel is the OM 651 it was not without its share of problems which you can read about on the forum. Data on its sucessor the OM 654 is thin on the ground as yet- but with a younger car you will have a longer manufacturer warranty remaining?

The Car I'm looking at in particular is a Nov 2016 AMG line, Premium Plus Spec with 13500 miles on it.

Something not right there, my 2016 has the 9G.

the bumf says registered Nov 16, definitely 7G Tronic Plus gearbox. and MyCarCheck app confirms 7 gears...
its from a main MB dealer
perhaps you have 9sp as your 250d is 4matic? when was the 9sp gearbox introduced? I thought it was 2017/18?

It says reserved, no price showing?
Premium Plus is the top spec though.

A quick look on Autotrader suggest the price is in line with other MB dealers for that mileage. Some lower mileage cars were around £25k, but outside the MB dealers were higher mileage examples for around £21k. Only problem is you'd need to travel a few hundred miles for some of them. If you can negotiate a discount for the one you like, it's probably the one to go for.

The way they're going, they'll own every dealership in Scotland soon.
Yep, and I'll never work for them again!!;)
