Hi have a C250 d Amg Line Saloon 2017 rear tyres are only lasting 4,000 miles. Pirelli Cint P7. Is this normal and is there a better tyre to use.

Welcome to the Forum.

I would suggest almost any tyre is better than the Pirelli, but to answer your question, no, that rate of wear is abnormal.

I, and many others find the Goodyear F1 Assymetric range to have excellent characteristic in terms of dry and wet grip, comfort and low noise.

Is the wear even across the tyre on both rears? Also, do you tend to accelerate away from rest "briskly"? Modern diesel engines produce a lot of torque at low rpm but having said that my E Class has more power and torque compared to a 250 CDi and the last set of Goodyear tyres on the rear lasted nearly 25,000 miles.

I expect to get at least 22K from mine based on the last 3 sets. Car came with 19”run flat Contis from the factory then replaced at 23k 24k for the same with over 2mm tread left at the lowest point. Now changed to Goodyear F1 , these are less noisy and seem
To work well but with only 2K use it’s hard to say how they will last

Welcome.

When you say "only lasting", do you mean that you have remaining thread depth of 3mm or less across the tyre (both sides, and centre)? And do you regularly check the tyre pressures to ensure that they are within the manufacturer's recommended range (as per the sticker inside the fuel flap)?

If the answer to both questions is "yes", then either you are using the accelerator too hard, or the rear shocks/springs have failed resulting in tyre spin.

If the answer is "no", then we'll need more info about what's actually wrong with the tyre, preferably with photos.

I had exactly this on my A209 AMG sport.
I’d had the alignment done with a new set of tyres. Following this the handling never felt quite right - I would get a ’shimmy’ when hitting undulations or bumps - almost like scuttle shake.
Took it back as the wear rate was ridiculous and it turned out the tyre house had entered the wrong model - without the staggered setup.
They reset it and fitted new tyres foc, but I’ve never been back there since.

edit: here’s the thread. Ignore where I said asymmetric, I meant staggered.

Down to 2.5 across the tyres don't drive hard or harsh. Car goes to mercedes for service and MOT every year. Never find any problems with suspension.
Changing tyres to Continental's on Wednesday 22 as that's what the tyre gge have suggested. As they don't rate Pirelli.
Fronts are coming up to 17000 and have about 4.3mm left same tyres make Pirelli.
Thanks for your response will see what the next one's do

Firstly, unless you have staggered set up, them it's recommended to rotate the wheels back to front every other service or so (depending on mileage), to ensure even wear of all 4 tyres - this way you can replace all 4 tyres in one go, which is the sensible thing to do.

Then, given the condition of the front tyres, in my opinion your issue has nothing to do with the make and model of the tyres, but with the car itself. I am willing to bet that the tyres are either slipping or dragging.

Get full-geometry suspension alignment done at a reputable place, then have the rear suspension as well as the brakes (and parking brake) checked.

Thanks for quick reply front have 225 on back 245 so can not swap
But will find out about the alignment
Thanks again

Hi , my car came with Conti 5p tyres and the wear rate was terrible.

Have now fitted Goodyear Asi 5 and a much better tyre all round.

However , availablity was not good so have fitted a cheap Chinese tyre until my new Goodyear tyre arrives.

I've the 4 matic estate version, came with run flat Contis from new and managed 28,000 miles from the rears.

Don’t fit new tyres without having a full four wheel alignment done at a specialist with a good reputation, as the same will happen to your new tyres if the problem is with the geometry.

How many sets have you fitted, and have they all only lasted 4,000 miles? Are you sure that the wear is even across both tyres, because that would would be very unusual with such aggressive premature wear as you’re describing.
