C220 d sport estate
HI I have a 2016 C220 d sport estate. Only had it for a month. The Passenger Air Bag fault light is showing it is off. This remains on even when I am driving along.
Anyone has any idea of how it can be fixed. Can it be a fuse.? Is there any workshop manuals.? I have always had a Haynes Manual with all my cars.

Are you sure the airbag warning light is on? A picture might help. Is anyone sat in the seat and it still showing as off?

The W/S/C205 series passenger seat has an occupancy sensor (most new Merc's are the same), the light is on permanently showing the airbag is off when nobody is sat in it.

Are you sure the passenger airbag hasn't simply been disabled (as one would do if fitting a child seat in the front passenger seat)?

Get your self an iCarsoft or similar code scanner, that should tell you if you have any electronic problems and give you a good idea of where the problem is.

Mercedes diagnostics are quite comprehensive but need a dealer or specialist to read them in more depth and also to reset some fault codes. I'm not sure if Haynes produce a manual, or how much a diy'er can do with them. A lot of stuff under the bonnet requires special proprietary tools.

If it’s this message on the centre console, as in my current car, it’s normal when the passenger seat is unoccupied:

I have a 2016 C250 estate. The passenger airbag light off sign illuminates when the seat is not occupied. With a passenger in the seat it reads passenger airbag on. The on message is to the left of the passenger airbag message, off is to the right. If you turn on the ignition and then sit in the passenger seat you see the light switch over to on after a couple of seconds. If it does as I have said all is normal if not get it checked out. After a little longer owning the car you will not even notice the message as it’s lowdown out of sight when driving.

On my old W203, the owners manual said that if a Child Seat Recognition System is not fitted, then the passenger airbag light "serves no purpose" and should be ignored. It used to illuminate briefly when starting the engine.

I Would say:

a. Read the fault codes (using iCarsoft) to see if there's a fault.
b. Check the manual to see under which condition this light should illuminate

Hi Everyone Thank you for advice. I got someone to sit in the passenger seat and it went from bag off to bag on.

How about a workshop manual, any ideas where I can find one, Haynes doesn't have one yet.. I used to work on my 5 series BMWs. I will definitely getting a diagnostic reader. is iCarsoft the best ?

iCarsoft is probably one of the best for the cost. There is an official workshop manual but it's not accessible to general public. It used to be available via the official Mercedes Owner's Club but not sure if it still is. It's called WIS
