it went mad after my trip on the autobahn, because I ran it near to redline in 5th for about 30 mins (around 140mph) it somehow got it into it's &quot;head&quot; that I must like driving around with the engine screaming at 5500 revs <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''> . &nbsp; After a minute or two off the autobahn it got it's act together and went back to normal again <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> .

Maz,

Welcome to the club, <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> this certainly is a great UK based place to get info on your Benz (or soon to be yours Benz <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> ).

Certainly for general driving I personally prefer auto's to manuals, I think the only exception to this was when driving my previous cars on snow, I'd have preferred a manual then. I haven't taken my current car on the slippery stuff yet... and I hope not to, even though it has a 'winter' mode button and traction control.

I am up for another GTG, which I think we are due.

Anyone else - suggestions?

Must be somewhere Shude is abe to travel too!

We bought the C Class in winter, and the day it was insured it was snowing.

Needless to say it was the first RWD car i ever drove, i ended up 180 degrees to the way i started may a time.

Edit : Sorry i meant C Class <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> A Class was bought in summer and its poo

Thats funny , the A class is front wheel drive and its got ESP , you must have been going quite fast to spin it.

My A160 was amasing in the snow

My post made a lot more sense before maz edited <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Mines a manual too!

I think the main benefits of a manual are better fuel economy (if you know what U R doing) and also more control...meaning that you change gear only when you want to and not midway round a corner or while aquaplaning etc.

It also helps a bit with performance ....especially if your car is a little under powered like mine &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/blush.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

having said all that, I'd still prefer an auto coz of all the driving in traffic I do.

I turned my car around every day during the last snow fall, intentionally, at a junction down my road. &nbsp;Just turned ASR off, full lock on the steering wheel and tapped on the gas pedal enough to lose grip, car spun around 180 degrees then I cruised up to the outside of my house. &nbsp;I don't think the neighbours were amused, but they have to do 3-point-turns to turn in that junction (popular manouver) so I reckon they were just jealous! <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Oops typo, Now edited <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

+ the only thing I dislike about having a manual is that on the W202 the manuals did not get Cruise Control &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/crazy.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

cruise control can be fitted, ie aftermarket kits, but you can have a mb cruise stalk to control it <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>
