HID Flashlight

Product trials.

http://reviews.mtbr.com/blog/lights-shootout-introduction/

Bike LED lights have come a long way. They have come from bike tail lights to affordable commuter lights to decent trail riding lights last year. Everything about them was better than halogen or HID except for light brightness. This year though, we heard that they are now brighter than HID. Brighter than HID? This we had to see for ourselves.

Maglite with a terralux led bulb is quite simply the best torch going, well alright not as bright as the hid one but pretty bloody good and it doesnt have the annoying blackspot in the middle of the beam, that you get with the std bulb.

Looking at that link - it seems that the HID torches are much more powerful than the leds... but lose points in weight/portability...

If you want the brightest, widest, best value light, this is it. But if you want a light with great mounting, features, design and flexibility, this is not the best choice. This light can be great for hobbyists who want to tweak and build their own mounts, battery placement, etc.

The most powerful LEd based system on that link is
http://reviews.mtbr.com/blog/lupine-betty-12/
which are $1200 isn't exactly value-for-money... and is still less bright (in lumens) than the HID...

That said, looking at their rollover thing (http://www.mtbr.com/trailbeamcomparisoncrx.aspx) there are some better looking things... hmmm

As maybe, but in cycle lamp tests they are are not as good as a decent LED lamp.

Bah, what do cyclists know anyway?

If they had brains their cycles would have an engine and they wouldnt be seen dead in lycra. :D

So I was mulling over this last night... why don't we have cars made with LED bulbs instead of HID bulbs?

The only car I can think of with LEDs is the Audi thing, and even that has a HID front light...

Buy them direct off the USA website, or US Flea-bay.....

It's worth reading through some of the customer reviews on their site...

Just got ordered one of these - 285 Lumen (maybe) for £20.00ish, and the same size as a surefire....just 1/10th the price...

I have a policeman friend who uses on of these as a quick flash, ooer missus, will temporarily blind someone leaving them as putty in his hands.

I bought a Surefire L4 Lumamax for work around six years ago, following a glowing personal recommendation from an armed police unit. I'm an aircraft engineer by trade and this torch has really been through the wars while I've owned it - what can I say further than that I'm glad I invested in it! It's just starting to show slight signs of use now, but there are very few marks on it and I know I can rely on it 100%.
