As the Mercedes brand have a reputation for longevity, I was wondering how many miles my engine is likely to do before expiring. Lets work on the principal that it’s kept fully serviced which it is, and driven moderately. At present its done 77,000 miles.  Is a 1.8 engine going to wear itself out quicker than a larger one – I suspect so.

Anyway please let me know what you think, and lets hear about some high mileages.

Oh, and to put things into perspective, the equatorial circumference of the world is just under 25,000 miles, so my car has been round 3 times already <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/butbut.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':butbut:'>

I once had a 190 which I traded with 170,000 miles on the clock. I then had a phone call from the new owner a few months later &amp; the car only had 70,000 miles!!

But even after all that it still ran sweet &amp; never had anything bar an exhaust.

My latest car now has 5,000 miles after my trip South of Watford Gap &amp; Back, Is it run in yet?

My car is 4 and its got 36K on it which means its not run in yet ... <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

Mine is nearly 10 - and only has 60k on the clock - So I'm just out of the running in period !

My car turned 4 in June and it's now done 131,000 miles. &nbsp; In it's previous life it was a company director's car and he drove a LOT in it (about 33,000 per year motorway stuff). &nbsp;I am continuing the trend and have done about 25,000 miles in my first year of owning it. &nbsp; It has always been stealership serviced and has wanted for nothing, so far the only problems have been a slight leak in the aircon compressor (still holding up *touch wood*) and a crack in the exhaust manifold (after about 105,000 miles, apparently not uncommon on 230k engines, that was about £500 to replace. &nbsp; She is prolly run in by now, and runs beautifully <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> .

Mine is 10, and has 122k on it still runs sweet.

Not wishing to steal the show, but we visit the Cannaries on a regular basis, and all the Taxi's out there are white 250d or 300d. The highest i've seen out there is 836000 kilometers, which i think is over 500k miles, it was a bit rattly, but still going earning a crust.

Mine will be 5 next March and it's currently on 63.7k miles. However, my previous '86 vintage 190E had 125k on it when I traded it in.

Mine was 3 on 1st March 02, and has 53,000 miles , The previous owner was a buisness guy/Restrant Owner, I'll be doin about 8,000 miles a year from now on in it

Mine is 5Yrs old and has just done 40,000m and so far no problems. Now wheres that piece of wood <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/colgate.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':colgate:'> .

2 years in mines got 52000 on it - probably be close to 70k when it goes out of warranty in April - going to start getting nervous at that point!!!!

Hate to say it, but new engines dont last like they used to...

Going by mileage means nothing tho', neither does FSH...

We have a customer this week, who is buying an engine for a E220 estate (1995) full service history (112,000 miles) it has just put a con rod through the block...

I'll check round the yard tomorrow for what the highest mileage is, but i know 3 of our sprinters are over 250,000 miles, the others are newish and are under 100,000, but you dont notice much difference driving the 250,000 ones as the 100,000 ones, because of the care we give them...

you want a scale, my dads car 9 years old, done 10,000 miles on the current engine &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> &nbsp;not run in yet!! &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

Have seen plenty of mercs at 200,000, 300,000 even a couple at 400,000.

Dont panic for a long while...

Mine's a 1992 vintage and its just been through its major 108k service.

Engine still feels nice and tight, oil pressure reads around 2.75 whilst hot at tickover...mind you, the previous owner anticipated keeping the car for 20 years or more so consequently I dont think its gone above 4000rpm ever.

Basically I am having to finish running it in   <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/dontgetit.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':dontgetit:'>

Mine is just over three years old and has done 54K. My previous motor was a Vito CDi and I had done around 80K without spending a penny other than regular servicing.

Our other car is a Mondeo with 142K on the clock, it is still an excellent motor..............even for a Ford. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

OK Guys `n` Gals, this is cool. Keep it coming. <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/thumbs-up.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Any advance on 500k?

I did 126k on a little CBR600 Honda and although it smoked a little, it would show 160mph on the clock right up to the day I went into a wall.

Rotfl &nbsp;

Oh boy, the things you do in your yoof huh?

I know it's a bit off topic, but I just sold this. It would rev to about 17000 rmp <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/banana.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':bannana:'>

The 220CE (1993) has done 120,000. Oil pressure is at the top of the dial, even when hot at idle, all is fine (so far....)

Our old S class (280SE, 1983?) had done 240,000? when I got rid, oil pressure about 1.5 hot/idle although the engine did smoke a little.

My VW van is a 1958 (44 years old!!&#33<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> and its got only 32,000km on the clock... <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
