THIS IS A BIT WORRYING? Several indies reporting more high mileage OM651 ENGINES with timing chain problems  OM651 diesel engine - Mercedes-Benz Owners' Forums

They are rubbish. Fancy only using a single row chain.

Avoid 4 pot diesel engines from 08 with high mileage then?

 what a mess.

Those sprockets are well eaten, my first thought when I saw that chain is over tensioned. Is that possible with these tensioners? Not at all familiar with this type of thing to be honest, does this chain drive a high pressure pump?

Yes.

The wear is a result of the single row chain.

 I almost felt silly asking, of course they wouldn't run a HP pump with a single row chain! But hey, they do. I wonder how much money that saved them at production time!:fail

10 is the drive for the high pressure injection pump but to be fair acts as a transfer gear from the geared lower section for the oil pump and lanchester shafts driven from the crank.
The major problem is the location of the timing gear at the rear of the engine meaning repair can be difficult.
