Hi All,

This is my first post on here, I purchased a 2017 E63S about a month ago, and if I am honest the whole experience has been ruined by this one noise coming from the dash speaker or infotainment unit.

The noise is very high pitched and seems to only occur when I am in motion and while I am steering, due to the nature of the tone I am the only individual who can hear it... My local dealer cant hear the noise and neither can friends or family. To me it is piercing and can be heard above all else and if I am honest makes my blood boil.

I have recorded the sound and brought the tone down so it is more audible to others, please find it here 2017 E63S Dash noise.mp3

If anyone has any information about this it would be massively appreciated!

Taking it into the dealer for the 3rd time tomorrow

Cheers

A mysterious noise that only you can hear, that drowns out other noises? Have you tried a tinfoil hat?

Haha, ill whack one on next time...

Its just high pitch enough that I can hear it and others older cannot (24). Check the recording, I lowered the pitch there and made sure I wasn't going crazy.

I can't hear anything but static, I'm afraid. But then, I am an OAP...

Obviously didnt lower the tone enough! All good the dealership said they could hear it on the recording and will see what they can do. Not hopeful tho

Does the noise occur with the infotainment system off or muted, or only when it is on? Does it come through all speakers or just one near the driver? As you say it only happens when steering, I assume that the power steering motor is generating some electrical noise that it shouldn't be. Hopefully the dealership will have an apprentice who is young enough to hear it so they can bottom out the exact source!

Hey thanks for the response, it happens with the infotainment on or off, and the volume on the radio makes no difference to the sound.

No luck yet from the dealer, might have to take it to a specialist auto electrician.

Have you been in any other W213 to see if they make the same noise? Worst case, in terms of resolving it, is that it is a characteristic and you're just unlucky enough to have unusually good hearing that can detect it. Best case is probably an auto-electrician fitting a capacitor or choke to a cable and making the problem go away for the cost of a pint.

cant hear anything at all just a bit of static. Without being offensive in any way, might it be woth having your hearing checked out?

This is my next step, get it to an Auto electrician to check it out. If that doesn't fix it, will be trading it in for something else. Shame as I absolutely love the car, just cant drown out the buz/hum in anyway :(

Sure you haven't got tinnitus?
Sure, had my hearing tested plenty of times for pre employment checks. Also had a C63S before without the issue, and have access to 3 other vehicles none of which make the noise.

Noise only occurs when the car is moving, and there is a load being applied to the steering wheel. Defo electrical related, could be a dodgy ground/capacitor or the top speaker on the dash.

I only asked that in jest, sorry.

Well if it only occurs when moving and only when there is load on the steering (both left and right load?) then i would perhaps start with the power steering pump or a wheel bearing. Just because it sounds like its coming from the dash doesnt mean it is.....Glad your hearing is OK.

Electric power steering, not hydraulic, hence the suspision that it's a stray electrical signal.
