Higher revs on cold starts

Hi All,

When I start my car cold (2012 C204 1.8 petrol) it revs to 1500 RPMs, and then in about 30 seconds drops back down to 800-900. Is this normal?

Yup, this is the 'choke'. Not sure mine goes as high as 1500 RPM but it does start higher for a minute or so, I guess to try and get things warmed up like the cats.

Thanks for the reply. I thought everything was fine because I had the car checked out on diagnostics and physically and everything was perfect.

You make sense because this only happens on cold starts. If it runs for 5 minutes and I restart it will not go past 900 RPM.
