Hi all,
bought myself a Vito 111 w639, 2007 van a couple of weeks ago and ready to start doing some upgrade work.
I've already managed to get a new steering wheel with controls, a highline cluster and cruise control stalk.
The van originally had an audio 5 unit fitted but will probably replace this with an android unit of some sort.
Anyway, I know that I have to marry the cluster to the EIS and ECU for it to work correctly, but are the pinouts the same on the later style cluster and the highline clusters?
I've read somewhere that the EEPROM can be removed and reprogrammed to zero the mileage and then pretty much anyone with a STAR unit can marry the units, or they self marry after 40+ engine starts.
I've read a few post on here that sometimes have some conflicting information and mostly done by people with earlier instrument clusters.
Also, after information for part numbers for the correct steering column slip-ring/spiral for the updated wheel with controls and if I may need to do any more of the loom to make the complete van compatible.

Any help greatly appreciated.
I should note that I'm pretty skilled being an electrical electronic engineer by trade, and have owned several Merc cars in the past. I'm pretty hands on when it comes to the maintenance.

Cheers

A few people on the forum have done it successfully but I was not able to get mine working. Did speak to Mercedes dealer workshop who advised against it as the cluster carries so much info. That said it has been done and perhaps the replacement cluster was faulty. Would have very much like to have fitted it as it is a real improvement. There is a problem in fitting as the not only are the pins in the connector different but the old connector will not fit the new. There is an adaptor, not Mercedes, available but I altered the old connector and refitted the pins to the later configuration but still did not work. If you do get it to work a dealer workshop can recode it to display the proper mileage. Good luck hope it works and post the results.

Hi Marku, I've had a quick look and the connector is definitely the same, I can't be sure about the PINOUTs though, I don't have access to WIS or anything like that at the moment.
I should make it clear, my vito is a 2007 model and has the twin binnacle cluster at the moment but not the dual LCD in the centre

Just as an aside, I had cluster issues on my 2007 Vito which a highly experienced and reputable specialist (The Instrument Cluster Repair Specialist, Cluster Repairs UK) had to admit defeat on after several attempts. No complaints about the service as they didn't charge me a penny, but the only solution that worked in the end was a brand new cluster fitted by MB. So I can sort of understand why people have had problems getting DIY upgrades to work. One plus to the whole thing though was that the new cluster displays remaining range, which the old one didn't!

I Know that @zenman63 has done write ups on dash upgrades and have looked through a few of his helpful replies on other threads! What was the overall success on your upgrade?

Then yours is the upgrade model and really you should have no problem fitting the alternative cluster. If you make sure you get a replacement from one as near to yours as possible. The WIS will not tell you what you need are the wiring diagrams for the two models and then if necessary you can move the pins. The cluster I have got is the dual LCD.

I have a steering wheel from a 2012 model ready to fit with steering wheel controls and cruise control stalk also.
I’m looking at fitting an xtrons android head unit as command is so expensive!

I have done this, the pin outs is easy, zenman has shared this info some where, that’s what I used, I managed to get the mileage done and sorted and the srs warning off, but now it doesn’t read the oil level and as such throws a warning up every so often, so need to get a starman to fix it hopefully.

It’s a massive improvement well was for me coming from the really basic cluster.
