SLK55 (R172) 62.
An interesting sale coming up this Saturday at Brooklands with a number of interesting MBs with what seem to be particularly low estimates ........

Page 4 is particularly interesting but lots of others to look at.:-

Historics at Brooklands - Specialist Classic and Sports Car Auctioneers - Cars

SLs and Pagodas to be found - maybe worth a look and online bidding available.

The CL65 + the S-Class 65 look interesting. The CL doesn't have Distronic though

For what it's worth, the S65 and CL65s at the auction were, to put it very politely 'rough' :(

The S65 had a mobile diag guy there on the Friday with a code reader trying to clear airbag codes and sort out why the alarm/hazards kept going off. The alarm siren must have been faulty as only the hazards kept flashing away.

He started it to bring it inside to carry on working on it - heavy smoking. Not good news on a bi-turbo V12.

A look up online shows that it was sold earlier this year and has done *very* minimal mileage since. I reckon sick turbo(s) or something like that?

Front discs completely shot (££££) - lipped and worn, generally quite scruffy - sub standard paint and badges etc, not cherished at all as you might expect for such a specialist car.

The CL65 sadly was a similar story although I didn't bother inspecting it mechanically. The front number plate was held on with silicone/mastic, again signs of poor paintwork/seals badly fitted on rear pillar, brake light on the boot lid held in with mastic/siliconed in, interior nowhere near as nice as it should be for 40k odd miles - nor the rest of the car. Just goes to show that not everyone with nice cars/money looks after their stuff.

Advisories for a cracked/damaged wheel which obviously didn't get properly sorted out (?) (split rim 19-inch) and had illegal tints on the side windows - which were beginning to de-laminate

Sold for £23k or £25k I think which when you add in another 10% + VAT buyers commission seems all the money to me. As rare as they may be, I wouldn't spend that much on a tatty one? Described as 'virtually perfect' by a 'fastidious' owner...:ban:

The S-class I think will make someone sick if they haven't seen the smoking engine. Not a cared for car at all and at nearly £17k with the fees I would say far too expensive.

A nice SL55 PP car made mid twenties but was missing it's original wheels. Seemed tidy compared to the rest. All the nice cars were indoors along with an 8k miler Evo-II (that someone was resting against and using as a table  )

The older MBs were in much better nick than these young timers.
