Used to have a E220d on lease, pre-pandemic, now I'm WFH and car-less. Hopefully I'd like to get into a big V8 at some point and so would like to find out as many gotchas from your knowledgeable selves when buying 2nd hand.

Thanks peeps, I've seen a car I like CLK55AMG on autotrader.

Got quite excited about it, it's the end of the line CLK55, so hopefully most of the gremlins had been sorted by this period.

Spoken to the seller, he wants a deposit £500 to reserve it. I want to book in a pre-purchase inspection, traders happy with this, saying the services have all been MB or MB indie specialists. On these boards I've seen prestige cars in Bradford recommended so I'll try them on Monday when they open up.

I guess the risk is that if it's a lemon, the 'trader' will refund me my deposit? In theory, they refund me and that's that, but if they say I never paid them anything? They don't seem to be a trader with a forecourt type of trader if you get my meaning.

Or maybe I'm getting worried about nothing, your experience is greatly appreciated.

Can you pay the deposit on a credit card? Hopefully you’ll have some “insurance” then for the refu should you not like it. Pete.

Well, I got the car! Then I managed to get locked out of here and failed the simple captcha test every time.

Really impressed with it. Never used to such a big engine, initially thought it was too big but now I'm getting used to it and I love it!

An A service at in-tune in Harrogate (Tony really seemed to know his stuff) revealed that I should change amongst other things, the (is it 32?) spark plugs.

Now I'm back on here, I've noticed that Ricky S is selling some spark plugs for a W211, will they fit a C209? Also because I'm a newbie, I can't reply to anything on the Classified boards

^ 16 plugs in a CLK55.
Should be the same plugs as an E55 ,but double check first. Halfords do a spark plug chart.
Nobody can reply to classifieds, but when you reach 30 posts you can private message.
If you confirm the plugs match and you want to buy Ricky's plugs, post back here and someone with Private messaging facilities will be able to alert him

Congrats post some photos. It’s a cracking engine. If you’re doing the spark plugs yourself, it’s a lot easier with a warm engine. I tried cold and some of mine would not budge.
