Driving along in Angie's SLK55 this morning and there was a "bong" as a message came up on the instrument cluster, together with a host of warning lights:

After stopping, I restarted the car and now the EML is on too:

Deep joy.

Looks like I'll be booking it in for some diagnostics...

My guess is a wheel speed sensor, should not be too expensive outside of main dealers.
That's what I was sort of hoping, but then the EML warning came on too which is a bit of a mystery.

Came on with all the rest when I had my 55 , it was the wheel sensor as already suggested, hopefully a relatively easy fix

Have you parked it anywhere new recently?

In leafy, leafy, Wimbledon we have a continuing battle with Squirrels chewing through the "eco-friendly" sensor cables on modern German cars.

A good munch can throw up all kinds of errors on ABS, cruise control, stability, and other sensors.

Truffle hunting squirrel?

Sensor seems like the obvious suspect, however I’d be tempted to pop it on a battery conditioner to see if it goes away. Low battery voltage can do strange things to a car, especially if the alternator isn’t performing.

Almost certain it is a wheel speed sensor, last time it happened to me the car had loads of warning lights it was the front left one I even changed it myself because nobody seemed to want this small job,the sensor gets rust under it and fails,I think I could have used the old one again having cleared the rust of it

I took it off the Optimate charger yesterday, otherwise that would have been something I’d have done.

Yes i am thinking speed sensor - mine is going to be replaced on Thursday ( MOT & Service time ) ....... Fingers crossed that it is just that.

Sensor and wiring faults will appear as warnings at 'key-on'.
It’s certainly a “key on” warning, so I’m hoping it’s simply a sensor gone bad.

Will know more on 18/11.
