Need some help here guys... no idea where to start..

We get married 20th April 08 so will be heading off the day after or so..

- 2 Weeks ish
- Dont really fancy just laying on a beach the whole time, wouldnt mind somewhere with a bit of scenery, places to explore and generally a bit of variety..
- Good vegetarian food
- Dont fancy sitting on the plane for 12 hrs + so Australia is out
- south america and maybe around las vegas has crossed my mind? any recommendations
- she doesnt want anywhere too hot and nor do i for that matter...
- ideally would split the 2 weeks between two places...

Anyone used any websites or companies to plan a honeymoon?

Retrace part of the old Route 66 in the US in a class A Winnebago. http://www.winnebagoind.com/products/winnebago/tour/index.php

"It winds from Chicago to L.A,
Nearly 2,000 miles all the way
Get your kicks ---
On Route 66!"

does look good, but more a family thing... i dont think she would appreciate 2 weeks in a camper van!

Malcolm- that just means you are the most qualified to answer my question!

Things have changed a little since I did it.

The first time I got married on wed afternoon early closing then and back to work on Thursday.
2 Year later when divorced I went to a wedding where the groom did not show up, the forlorn-ed girl asked me to go on the honeymoon with her to save wasting the tickets, that was great in the south of France, I only obliged as I am kind.

With wife 2 we went to Spain, a big thing in those days 1967.

Wife 3 we went to Africa, sadly the alcohol was so cheap, she did not see much of the honeymoon.

With number 4 we spent it in Sweden on the west coast and was nice.

So as I said, not much to offer :(:(:(:(:(

I've not long come back from Vegas, you should have mentioned it on Saturday. I can thoroughly recommend the place (it was our second visit in 5 years), there's so much to see and do. Neither of us gamble, so it's cheap, too! Everything is in effect subsidised by all the punters losing money hand over fist.

It is a long trip though, even if you fly direct (expensive) it's 10 hours, allow for a change somewhere and it's probably 14-15 hrs end to end. Also bear in mind that Vegas is in the middle of a desert surrounded by miles and miles of bugger all, so there's not much exploring to be done outside the city. It is, however, fantastically connected by air, so you can get a plane to almost anywhere in the US when it's time to move on. It shouldn't be too hot in April, but we went in August before when the temperature was well over 100 and to be honest, it's no big deal. The humidity is practically non-existant and it's just, well, a bit hot.

If you do decide to visit and want some recommendations, sing out and I'll try and help.

Cheers,

Gaz

Thanks Gaz, i saw a program once, arent there supposed to be some of the best waterfalls in the world not too far from vegas?

I was thinking of around 4 days in vegas as im not really a gambler and the rest in a more relaxing place...

I got married in Vegas :) Enjoyed every single minute of it.

The wife didn't even know !! She thought we were going to Spain for her 30th :D

She was giving me grief for getting the terminal wrong as there were no flights to Spain on the board :) . . . nearly died when I told her to check the tickets

I had Elvis and a chapel booked and everything . . . It was fantastic !

The hotels are unbelievable as are the restaurants. It's an experience you won't forget in a hurry. I couldn't have spent a fortnight there . . . I'd have been skint !! . . .but there are travel companies that do it contained in package where you go to a few places first, Yosemitie National park etc and finish up in Vegas to end it off with a bang :bannana:

If funds could have stretched I'd have looked at something like that.

'thank you very much . . . .'

Hmm, Vegas is in the middle of the desert. It's completely arid, and I'd be surprised if there was one decent waterfall nearby . There's the Hoover Dam, of course, if that's your idea of a good time, but that's the only water you'll find around there. Maybe it's something to do with that..

Cheers,

Gaz

maybe im getting mixed up then... ill keep looking around... Mauritius keeps popping up everywhere but i think thats probably too quiet..

Congrats on the forthcoming nuptials!!!
me 'n' my good lady had 2 weeks on Tobago :bannana:

Awesome beaches (some so wild & unspoilt its untrue), both on carribean & atlantic side. Great restaurants, people soooooo chilled out, fantastic scenery (and whole fresh lobster for $12), virgin rainforest etc etc etc

only 9 hrs from blighty:confused:
we got a craking deal direct with Excel Airways, and 'er indoors' came up trumps with the Blue Haven Hotel for a steal

god i miss that place.........

A couple of years ago we went to Mauii on our Honeymoon. It is probably one of the most fantastic places to go.

Plenty of volcano's to look at/in.. And some very noce beaches if you want to relax. We did 3 nights in San Fransisco, another fabulous place for sight seeing etc and then 10 days in Mauii.

I highly recommend that..

Firstly Congrats!

I would recommend South Africa, Cape Town and Kruger National Park, if you want to gamble theres a place called Sun City near Johannesburg. Also if you fancied driving/flying to Zimabwe/Zambia to see Victoria Falls, and Hwange National Park they're well worth seeing. Plenty to do in SA, there are beautiful beaches, wine regions, osterich farms, Kimberly diamond mine.

Vegas is cool too, i did a 10 day trip a few years back, Vegas, LA, Phoenix, Sedona, Grand Canyon.

If you like history i'd recommend Egypt, although it can be hot and veg food can be hard to find unless you're into the idea of a 2 week diet of fruit and omlettes!? Cairo, Abu Simbel, Aswan and to relax go to Alexandria or Sharm el Sheik.

If you want to keep it City livin, then how about Washington > Philadelphia > New York > Boston? Not sure how the weather would be in April though.

Not on honeymoon but we were recently in Mauritius (Decided to go for one of the best hotels - Shandrani). It was indeed brilliant. If you are into diving, sailing & other water sports then its the place to go as its all surrounded by bay and plenty of wildlife. There are a lot of places on the island to go around as well. Boat trips around the island are also good.

Sun City, South Africa. 1 week if probably more then enough but there is the Pilansburg nature reserve alongside for a couple of more days. Very economical as you can rent cottages within the sun city itself at reasonable costs but you do have housekeeping service as well so no worries on that front.

Maldives - but its really about lying on the beach and I have not been there yet.

Lakshadweep & Kerela Backwaters - South India. Ideally for a nature & water life freak (A heaven for me).

Me and the wife did the Maldives last year and it was the best holiday i've ever had beutiful scenery, some of the best food i've ever had, and brilliant snorkelling/diving. One of the most romantic places on the planet ideal for a honey moon! Ooh and my wife is a veggie!

I went to Bahamas, wife is vege and we went fully comp to breezes hotel - can recomend - food was perfect. Never mind the beach, pool, etc they also have things such as a full size trapeze on the beach with free lessons. Went on underwater bikes _Yes bikes that you ride with a 2 foot perspex ball around your head powered by a electric motor. All you do is breathe, push the button and steer.
Went on a speed boat ride 30 miles out to islands inhabited only by massive lizards and surrounded by sharks. Also went and swam with dolphins, meeting flipper on the way (wel the flipper from the modern film)
Went to huge aquarium with biggest rays in the world in.
Theres casinos, quaint towns... etc etc. Flight was about 7 hours so just comfortable. No vaccinations either ( I think?? - cant remember really)

i got married two years ago in jamaca was there for three weeks all inclusive ,would realy recomend it , did swimming with dolpins , dune river falls , horse ride in the sea , quad bikes in the mountains , and diving , highly recomended :D
